I’m not sure it’s ever worked with the majority. I think we’ve all (the media) just been so focused on his hard core base of support and what they think. After the election, they started focusing on the rest of America and now it doesn’t seem like he’s winning these arguments anymore. I’m not sure he ever was.

Why oh why will no one in the media make this same simple point? This started under unified Republican control of the government and if the Democrats give in this will become the go to tool in the Republican toolbox. As painful as it is to see government workers being used as pawns by Trump we must not give in.

Agreed! I should have said his base but I don’t like using the term. They are such a minority and I think given too much emphasis. The tide is definitely against him now, but it can’t go out fast enough for me to get him out of office.

Because I watch a lot of Mythbusters and would like to test that hypothesis.
One of the reasons Mitch isn’t holding a vote is to keep his caucus in line and prevent them from having to vote against ending the shutdown.
But I want those votes on record. I also want Trump’s veto on record as well as the vote of every Republican House member who does not vote to override that veto.
I want the pressure ramped up on these treason weasels until they crack.

The simple answer is no, not at this time are there enough Repubs to override in both House and Senate. However, let the process work the way it is supposed to, record the votes, and once the floodgates are open and the shutdown gets worse, see who on the Repub side allows the govt to open up again. McConnell is the lynchpin holding the floodgates closed.

We all know this is the reason McConnell doesn’t hold a vote.
While he may be within the barest strict reading of the constitution, it is pretty clear following the intent of the constitution has left the building.

You said you were proud to shut it down. It’s yours. Mitch McConnell could end this in about an hour if he’d allow another vote on the same bill they already passed once and the GOP passed it with a supermajority to override your veto.
