“but many of his usual allies have voiced displeasure at his tariff threat.”
So is “displeasure” the new “concern”, or is it more concerned than “concern”?
If Trump throws a temper tantrum like he did last time, will rethugs still be concerned?
The Trump Doctrine
Belligerent ignorant asshole = Strong
Had enough yet republicans? Your net worth is dropping like a rock
“Foolish” is synonymous with “I don’t like it”. I’m not sure he groks the concept of “I don’t like it, but it’s a good idea for them to try”.
Unfortunately for the Rethugs, by this time next year, prices on many things in this country imported from outside of the US, from food to consumer goods will be going up. In some cases, dramatically. The blame lays at their feet. It’ll do wonders for the Presidential election.
Farmers in MAGA-land have a tough choice, the wall or their livelihood.
Congratulations, you’ve just become a minority in Trumps world. Enjoy.
Has he not figured out that a veto cuts both ways? Yes, he can veto a piece of legislation that he doesn’t like, but it also hangs the decision squarely around his neck. If he vetoes a bill on tariffs, he owns them even more than he does now. He’ll blame other people, but that will only work with the base.
At this point the money behind the GOP will push to impeach before Pelosi does.
Gez if only…
“I don’t think they will do that; if they do it’s foolish,” he said of the threatened Republican vote. “There’s nothing more important than borders. I’ve had tremendous Republican support.”
OH! How small your simple little mind…
Nothing?
Shockingly, Trump reacted to the threat exactly they way the “Trump has Narcissistic Personality Disorder” predicted he would. However, it’s too soon, and, in any case not especially productive, to be talking about him as if he had a profound mental disorder that literally determines his responses to given stimuli and thereby can be used to manipulate his behavior by anyone who understands it.
Should have been the plan all along. Reclaim the Center. Get rid of the Gingrich Doctrine.
Dirksen teamed up with LBJ for the Civil Rights Bill.
Ike’s tax rate was better than what we now call “liberal”.
I thought something similar. They’ll continue to support him as long as he enables their cause. Muck that up, though…
unfortunately, while most GOP congresscritters and Senators are against the tariff’s no one is willing to stick their necks out…
which explains why Yertle is the Senate majority leader…
TPM, why drag Devin’s cow into this mess?
What is it with Melania and those ridiculously wide belts over coats? Even on a tall slender woman they make her look bunchy.
Ike had a huge plurality in Congress, a 75% approval rating, a voting population with a near 40% Union membership who still idolized FDR, and stated that; “We fought WW2 to protect Capitalism, so Capitalism will pay for it.” in support of the 91% top tax bracket. Now, this was to reduce the massive deficit run up during WW2 so as to stave off runaway inflation and as the deficit was reduced, he was open to reducing the Tax rate too, so few dared argue with him.
As much as I agree with you the sad truth is most of them will still pick the fake MAGA and xenophobia over their own well being. Remember they ALREADY did in the election.
I’m more concerned with the colors. Blue belt over beige?
It’s feeling like a game of chicken between Pelosi and the Republicans.
The Republicans want Pelosi and the Dems to get rid of this embarrassment, leaving none of their fingerprints on the deed.
Pelosi is very warily circling around an obvious trap.
When you shoot at the king, you better not miss.
