unforeseen consequences can be a bitch…
maybe it’s as simple as people giving Cheeto Donnie:fu:
That’s a firing offense in some companies but I think the TPM moderator will give you a pass.
It’s kinda like inauguration day crowds.
The people are smarter than the fat old cruel bastadrumpf…They know if he is against it …it could KILL THEM.
Murderous cruel, liar and dumb shile…
Lock him up…
Maybe they finally figured out that the GOP wasn’t going to give them better or cheaper or even any coverage.
It will be interesting to see how many people try to get to the Healthcare.gov site during those extended periods when it’s “down for maintenance”. Also: a FOIA request for exactly what maintenance is being performed.
WE’RE NUMBER 1!!
WE’RE NUMBER 1!!
WE’RE NUMBER 1!!
ETTD, including Obamacare repeal. He’s low energy and doesn’t have any follow-through for tasks more complicated than pouring ketchup on his steaks.
Thank you, Democrats and President Obama, a true leader.
I’m sure it’s a combination of factors, not the least of which is all the grassroots efforts via social media, rallies and other activities aimed at picking up and running with the outreach ball that the administration had intentionally dropped.
But I suspect the single largest factor was that most people want coverage if they can afford it, and many people have become painfully aware that Trump and the GOP were threatening to take away their ability to obtain affordable coverage, and therefore many folks rushed to make sure they could still sign up for it. Finding out that they could, and seeing what their premiums looked like after the subsidies, they said “hell, yes, I’m signing up right now.”
We’ll have to see whether the final numbers are up or down (as the article points out, the open-enrollment period has been cut in half), but it would be great if they’re up.
If that does happen, Trump probably won’t be able to resist taking credit for the uptick in coverage, despite his clear effort to drive these enrollments down. Should make for some interesting Twitter gymnastics.
Joni Mitchell explained it many years ago (too many)
Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got 'till it’s gone
They paved paradise, put up a parking lot
And remember, that’s just the exchanges. Lots and lots of people are jamming the phone lines of all the insurance companies I’ve been calling directly this week.
Same reason that gun nuts rush out to buy guns and ammo everytime a Democrat gets elected POTUS. /s Maybe everytime a Republican gets elected POTUS from here on out, people will expect to have to rush to make sure they have affordable coverage before Republicans can take it away? :-/
People are signing up because perhaps people WANT insurance coverage. As opposed to the Republican believe in the FREEDOM to not have insurance.
And how many Republicans themselves actually literally choose to go without health insurance? They just try to play into young people’s sense of “invincibility” and not wanting to pay for something they think “they don’t need”.
Perhaps all the hoopla raised by the GOP disparaging the ACA actually backfired.
It brought a lot of attention to the idea of signing up for healthcare and might have raised curiosity among many who hadn’t considered it, or never needed to until this year. Then when these newcomers and ACA-curious folks browsed the site, they might have seen some pretty good bargains, and bought a policy.
If so, just another major fuckup for the trump-led GOP.
