Discussion: Trump Scrambles To Save Palestinian Aid After Realizing Strategic Misstep

Yet more doublethink in US Mid-East policy:

Anti-Terrorism Clarification Act

So the performative cruelty for the masses was stupid and counterproductive. Who would have thought it?

It’s hard to believe that the Palestinians would be unwilling to cut a deal under these circumstances. One of the major characteristics of this administration is that they don’t think at all about any negative repercussions for their actions. Their policy actions seem like they were all developed in a bar at the end of happy hour by a bunch of MAGA guys who are trying to one-up each other in a contest of “I’ll tell you what we should do.”
Even now, the policy change is not based on what decency demands; instead, it is again an action that is designed to get him what he wants. Palestinians need to be careful with this; there is no way that this administration honors their commitments.

I seem to remember that early in Obama’s first term, he got flack from somebody because he used to brainstorm with people (in his “professorial” manner), running through various scenarios, discussing pros and cons of any actions/reactions, and someone (probably a Gooper from House or Senate) made a big deal in the press about his “hemming and hawing” and saying he was weak and indecisive. We’re talking back in the days when McTurtle was convinced he could limit Obama to a single term. A minor shitstorm occured but was enough that Obama kept this sort of ruminating confined to a select, trustworthy inner circle.

Now we’ve got Mr Shoot-from-the-Gut in office and stuff like this happens because nobody in his administration wants to think stuff through, and even if they did, there is nobody willing to tell the emperor he has no clothes.

So this kind of crap keeps happening.

Let’s adjust this for right now. We can always go back to totally fucking the Palestinians again at a later date.

Moron in Chief lives in the land of unintended consequences.
As opposed to everything he’s fucked up with his reckless stupidity(tarriffs, zero tolerance at the border ect …etc …etc) it might be easier to list what he got right…

Achieving peace between Israel and Palestine is probably impossible. To do it you have to really want peace between them. Trump wants the fame from being the man that did it. He’s treated the Palestinian people cruelly just to make his base happy and now aims to “roll out a peace plan”. Given so many sincere efforts to achieve that peace have failed in the past this one has zero chance.

Proof yet again that republicans are incapable of even the most basic governance, much less something this complicated and important.

You Betcha
I had Morning Joe First look on about 5:30… (7:30 Argentine time )
and yes there he was in Argentina live speaking without a teleprompter telling us what good deals he did with Argentina and President Mauricio Macri in grade three grammar.
It was an embarrassment I had to mute it before I hurled my coffee

That sounds like a typical twisting of a virtue into a vice, but almost anyone who’s worked with other serious adults on long-term projects has done this. It’s called strategic planning, for Christ’s sake. Among the weak, indecisive people who do it very elaborately are people at the upper levels of every branch of the armed forces in every developed country including and especially ours. Who doesn’t do it and never has? Donald John Trump.

This is what happens when foreign policy is made by Fox News talking heads and Christian evangelicals and the President doesn’t have a clue or give a shit.

“Legal experts who have studied ATCA say the easiest fix would be to have
Congress amend the law to allow the president or secretary of state to
waive the aid cut-off on national security grounds.”

Oh please. As if Tweety Amin would miss an opportunity to not waive a cut-off of aid to Palestinians.

Trump is holding out for that train station at the Wailing Wall that’s to be named after him. He won’t be directly connected to anything that relieves the suffering of the Palestinians.
