Discussion: Trump Says North Korea Nuclear Missile 'Won't Happen'

Trump knows things about North Korea’s nuclear weapons programs that the NSA, CIA, DoD, Dept of Energy and others aren’t privy to. He’ll tell us all about it, the second Tuesday of next week.

Well thanks Donald , that’s good to know .
See how easy it is being King
You just decree something and it will be .

…at least until the lunatic in North Korea calls your bluff and unleashes some nukes to prove a point.

Scared yet folks?

If several dozen South Korean military specialists agree to stay for a week at Trump’s DC hotel he may grant them an audience to air their concerns over North Korean sabre rattling.

“North Korea just stated that it is in the final stages of developing a nuclear weapon capable of reaching parts of the U.S. It won’t happen!
5:05 PM - 2 Jan 2017”
Actually, Mr. Con Man (I use Mr. out of respect for the office of the Presidency), North Korea already has developed “nuclear weapons.” They are now in the final stages of developing an ICBM which can carry those nuclear weapons long distances. I realize the distinction might be lost on you, but it’s one of those things a President should understand. Even the use of the term “nuclear missile” would be somewhat more accurate. Think of it as a courier bringing a message, rather than sending an angry email.

What is he going to do to stop it? Engage the North Koreans in a mighty tweetstorm?

Launch codes can be hacked. We should go back to the good old days when FedEx delivered nuclear weapons.

The tweet is mightier than the nuke.

I have come to realize that stupidity if a 5th horseman of the apcalypse—or, as I prefer to call it, the Twitpocalypse.
Seriously, Trump could end the whole nuclear buildup if he just agrees to build a Trump Tower for Kim to live in, on condition of giving up nuclear weapons.

What… by being fatter?
Seriouser question: Can the US shoot down an ICBM with good likelihood?

Within this insanity is the idea that trying to bitch slap China would result in…?

Does anyone think that Asian leaders are looking at this and thinking that America is a still a rational actor on the world stage? No doubt, Rump and his band of scum are taking Stephen Moore’s position of “Screw 'em.”

How remarkably stupid.

Does anyone think the US would go to war to keep the PRC from developing and producing missiles that could reach US territory? After all, it is not like they need to roll out scores of such missiles–perhaps fewer than a dozen of them would have the desired effect.

This reminds me of how Hermann Goering declared that if a single British bomb fell on Berlin, “you can call me Meyer.” Meyer Trump it is.

Amateur Hour…

except we are talking about total annihilation.

Trump and Kim Jong Il are just too similar in character for my sense of security. How long until one of their ego-battles becomes a tweetwar that has deadly real-world ramifications?

Trump v Kim on the Twitter mat? Trump V Kim on the nuclear stage? Too many deadly buttons for these b;lustering buffoons to handle safely.

They are both too ego-challenged to lead sane people. But, then, if we were all sane, Trump would never have been nominated, let alone elected.,.

Anyone who denies the crude mindset that brainwashing from the right wing media has done represents anything but a form of insanity is either naive or one of them.

Meanwhile Trump publicly speaks about EXPANDING the US nuclear arsenal and says crazy things like why do we have nukes if we aren’t going to use them!

Gee, I wonder what kind of message that sends to N. Korea, Pakistan, Germany, Japan, Cuba, and others.

Trump basically tells the world to do as he says and not as he is doing himself…and that isn’t the half of it. With Trump’s unpredictable and erratic behavior, the rest of the world will step up their efforts to build nukes…to keep Trump from invading!

Our bastard President is going to get us all killed!

Can you imagine a summit conference between tRump and Kim? The World Series of bad hair.

No. Many involved in attempts at devising such a system have equated the feat to hitting a bullet with a bullet. There are many articles detailing the conditions of tests performed on such systems, all pointing out the DoD set them up to create the most ludicrously easy targeting techniques in order to display progress and assure continuing funding. Tests have been typically conducted with the goal of intercepting and destroying a single incoming missile, whereas an actual nuclear attack might involve dealing with dozens of ICBMs simultaneously. Barring a 100% success rate you have one or two (or more) missiles evading the system. Yes, you might save millions of lives having shot down a few, but the destruction of two or three cities and the loss of millions of lives would mute your satisfaction considerably. Many opposed to developing such systems allege their very existence will prod adversaries to launch larger attacks, probably resulting in more death and destruction than if you didn’t possess intercept capabilities in the first place.
