Discussion for article #246440
Pressing issues among normal conservatives:
Romney: Trump lies, I am richer than him and I pay less taxes than him.
Trump: I am richest man alive. I don’t need to prove anyone that I am richest. I just am.
“Because my returns are extremely complex and I’ll make a determination at the right time,” Trump responded. "I’m in no rush to do it. (GOP Presidential Candidate Donald Trump)
The public knows how to read. Either you have something to hide or you think the general public is stupid. Which one is it?
“Because my returns are extremely complex” -Trump
Hey, nobody said tax avoidance was easy.
We know the latter is true, and you can bank on the former.
LOL. Oh, so true.
Former Gov. Willard “Mitt” Romney (R-MONEY) set the gold standard in tax return non-releases. It is only right that he should pressure Trump to live up to his level of non-releases.
As far as Trump saying that he is no Rush…well I do see a lot of similarities between the Donald and Limbaugh.
They are both self-fellating puffed up snake oil salesmen selling to rubes.
TPM, why why why why why why why do some of your articles’ comment sections work and some don’t??? So very very very very very frustrating, guys~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!
And while he’s ducking and dodging on tax returns, maybe Trump should also be asked about his upcoming fraud trial?I
In court filings last Friday, lawyers for both sides in a long-running civil lawsuit over the now defunct Trump University named Trump on their witness lists. That makes it all but certain that the he will be forced to be grilled under oath over allegations in the lawsuit that he engaged in deceptive trade practices and scammed thousands of students who enrolled in his “university” courses in response to promises he would make them rich in the real estate market.
.
Are Republicans finally coming up with a plan to beat Donald Trump?
Short hands, short balance sheet.
Man he just gets a ton of air time. He might be financing his own campaign, but I bet he spends the least amount of money.
The plan seems to be to run back and forth, wringing your hands, and vaguely hoping somebody will do something or trusting nervously that the gods of what is right and proper will bestir themselves to act at some undetermined time in the near future because it’s just wrong that Trump should be where he is. Jim Newell has a piece up at Slate about how the candidates aren’t attacking Trump. And neither are the hand-wringing billionaires, for fear Trump will “call them mean names.” He calls the situation pathetic because that’s what it is.
If the RNC had any balls they’d tell Trump the returns must be released before a nominee is deemed the victor by virtue of delegates won and the convention places his name on the national ticket. Why in the hell the GOP would hold their convention only to have the nation discover afterward Trump’s returns in fact contained very troubling information is strange indeed. At minimum they should demand RNC accountants and lawyers have access to them, possibly signing confidentiality agreements. Yet there will still be the thorn of Democrats making it a campaign issue, however the RNC deals with it pre-convention.
You’re right. The Republicans have created such a messy situation for themselves. They have only themselves to blame. That said, I can’t imagine they’d demand his tax records because that would set a precedent – then a possible wave of unintended consequences would likely occur in the future … much like the unintended problem of having a viable Donald Trump running for their national ticket all because they allowed the Tea Party and up-front, in-your-face hate tactics to be their brand for the last eight years. The GOP owns the Donald Trump problem.
You are on to something.
Maybe the returns show that he short-handed (short-fingered) the IRS. Maybe it will show that he is coming up short on his claims of wealth. It is even possible that he short-changed an associate or two.
Hehe. Are you suggesting Donald Trump is bein ***short-***sighted here? Or just short-fingered?
I dont see any reason for Trump to release his Tax Return. It will have no consequence and he can easily play victim/privacy card. His supporters will stick with him regardless.
Whoa!!
My guess is that Romney for the first time in his life has nailed it.
Obviously Donald “the draft dodging coward” Trump has a problem in releasing his returns.
Mitt, congratulations, you finally contributed something to America.
Various polls reflect he has a ceiling of support within the GOP and will need to draw votes from at least some Independents and Democrats in the general election to win the Presidency. Anything damaging that can be revealed has the potential to discourage these crossover voters casting a vote for him. Rabid supporters may be prepared to literally forgive him cold blooded murder on Fifth Avenue. The rest of the electorate? Not so much.
