Trump - “If you’re weak, if you’re weak, which some people would like you to be,
if you’re really, really pathetically weak, the country is going to be
overrun with millions of people,” he said. “And if you’re strong, then
you don’t have any heart.”
Being more presidential every day.
Sure he will. And it will have no legal problems at all. And ICE will move expeditiously to reunite families already disrupted.
And a pony.
A Pulitzer to the first reporter who asks Sarah (or Kirstjen or whoever) if this is an interim measure or whether Trump has now figured out his final solution.
Donald Trump, the Tough Love President.
So Trump wants to back down and the Republicans are aiding and abetting him by letting him take the lead before they vote to give him some to most of his extortion demands. I think we’re getting close to the Higgs boson of dignity wraithing.
So how long will it take to reunify families? There will be delays, there will lawsuits, and this piece of crap President will still be a piece of crap.
Trump’s intention to sign an EO is a tacit admission that he was lying before. Surprise, surprise, surprise!
Ooo Ooo Pick me! I know what the order is!
If we just tattoo a six digit number on the left forearms of the mom and kids then we can match them back up later.
Wait, someone already tried this… well dang.
“If you’re weak, if you’re weak, which some people would like you to be, if you’re really, really pathetically weak, the country is going to be overrun with millions of people,” he said. “And if you’re strong, then you don’t have any heart.”
Yes, being POTUS is hard work. It requires intelligence, understanding of the issues, a willingness to seek solutions to difficult problems, and the ability to compromise. You also need a strong moral compass and sense of humanity.
Too bad Trump is woefully unqualified on every front.
If you’re weak, pathetically weak you’ll hide your taxes and claim you can’t release them because they’re being audited.
If you’re strong, you’ll release them and let the American people judge you for who you really are.
And reeking with vengeance!
This will be interesting, especially when you remember that Trump consistently talks out of both sides of his mouth.
I’m sure that analysis will be all over FOXNews all day.
“I’ll sign something.”
Now, there’s a strong, decisive leader, huh, folks? I’ll bet Trump is the kind of guy who answers those emails from the phony Nigerian princes telling Donald they have millions of dollars waiting for him in an off-shore account if he will only give them his credit card number.
Well, you do have to play to your strengths.
And then duck out to a rally in Minnesota.
We know Donald Trump. He will never admit that he started this atrocity nor will he ever stop it. It will just morph into some other action just as disgusting as his last. These children were kidnapped and hidden from society.
We need to see all the places these kids are being held NOW. I don’t want to see anymore propaganda shots courtesy of Rick Santorum’s film company. This atrocity needs to be documented for posterity and historians, as well as for pending court actions.
Donald started something which he cannot run away from. We won’t let him.
Since Trump caved on the issue, then he is, by his own definition, really, really pathetically weak…
This is a strategic retreat on Trump’s part. Rather than let Congress take some torture tools away permanently, he is unilaterally suspending this practice. The intent to imprison entire families will run into court rulings and he’ll get tied up there. He will reserve the right to reinstate this policy and use it as leverage in budget negotiations etc.
The purpose of this planned initiative was to send a message to POC that his white nationalist gov’t will do everything possible to harass and torture them. It starts with the most vulnerable and reaches into naturalized citizens and then POC citizens. It was a message to white people too: Trump is serious about doing everything possible to change the demographic destiny of the country, including torturing and murdering people. As a political move, it more deeply embeds white nationalism as a core value of the GOP.
All that said, Trump is about to learn the downside of this policy. I see the following:
- His intent to incarcerate families will get a rebuke from the courts.
- The poor treatment of children is already getting into the courts. We’re hearing horrific stories of children being forcibly injected with anti-psychotic drugs. This pushes DHS into that area of civil/criminal law around caregiver abuse. This is deeply embedded in American case law and Trump’s DHS will not be able to escape liability. The level of abuse will lead to a wholesale reorganization of DHS and give Democrats a very potent political tool. The amount of discovery that will happen here will cause a lot of dirty secrets to become revealed which will further mire this gov’t in a cesspool (dare I say, swamp) of moral corruption.
- Democratic groups are going to be active in publicizing the issue of reuniting families and treating children. It will have a galvanizing effect on the Democratic electorate. A mistake the GOP made is to have dispersed kids all over the country. It makes this issue more personal to Americans to know that in your state, in your town a child is forcibly being held away from his/her parents by your government.
- We also can surmise that Trump stopped this because he knows that his DHS has likely broken multiple laws in the administration of this policy. He’s trying to cut off his own government’s liability. But lawyers are going to go after this.
- This will also lead to a scandal at the Justice Department as Jeff Sessions administered this policy without any regard for constitutional rights.
