Discussion: Trump Says He'll Review Murder Case Against 'Military Hero' Ex-Army Commando

It also sounds a whole lot like obstruction of justice.

First his unannounced visit to Arlington on Saturday, now this bullshit. Empty gestures of faux patriotism to deflect attention from his rapidly deteriorating legal and political situation. Get ready for a lot of flag-hugging.

I read the article in the Washington Post. I am not sure your characterization is entirely accurate. There is a lot of stuff swirling around the story but it isn’t as black and white as you seem to imply. I think it is a case that should be left to the Army. What I think is fair to say is the officer at the center of the story was on his way up the chain and this story has quashed his career. Did he kill the detainee (an alleged Taliban bomb maker) I don’t know. The local guy helping us was scared to death that the detainee (who got a glimpse of the local guy) would be released and make things bad for his family. There were allegedly others involved in the incident. It is one of those stories the Army really doesn’t want to look at too closely. Trump’s announcement might have forced them to take a deeper look which I am sure Trump really didn’t want.

Shorter Donnie: It’s heroic to lynch a suspect while overseas.

What is your native language?

White americans are allowed to kill anyone anywhere and be labeled “US Military Hero” . Bu I don’t know why anyone is concerned about this guy, he was already cleared once and only got in trouble because he bragged about his assassin skills in CIA interview. Either way, how many people went to jail for the 400 killed in My Lay? One for 1 and a half years. Nobody has gone to jail for the massacres in Irak, not even the mercenaries.

Starr has a pipeline to Mueller? Who knew?

Same as Trump

From the cited WAPO article

According to Army documents, the young officer disclosed to CIA personnel during a 2011 job interview that he had killed an unarmed Taliban fighter he suspected of being a bombmaker. The documents, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, also suggest an elaborate cover-up that, if true, could amount to serious war crimes involving not only Golsteyn but fellow Green Beret soldiers.

From tonight’s NYT article:

But then, five years later, in an appearance on Fox News, Major Golsteyn again said he had shot the Afghan. The Army opened a second investigation in late 2016, and charged Major Golsteyn with murder last week.

I see no reason not to believe him.

Edited to add new article.

Fred Trump spoke Deutsch? Without articles?

At this point I’m baffled …how does the Army get to try him for this again without running into the bar on double jeopardy?

ISIS has so alienated the local populations that it has greatly helped us to defeat them.

The Taliban learned this lesson early on and treated their countryman somewhat better and had retained more local support.

If we treat the locals the way ISIS does we will be ISIS’s best recruiter worldwide. US mistreats Muslims has been one of their propaganda hooks for a long time.

If, instead of arresting Charles Manson, a cop had just walked up to him and shot him to death, that would have been murder. Next question?

If the cop knew Manson was going to promptly send his minions to kill Sharon Tate would you sentence the cop to death? Next question? The reason we don’t want to ever fight wars is moral issues like this come up all the time. We killed hundreds of thousands in Iraq. Most were collateral damage. The war was totally unnecessary. Cheney and Rumsfeld are still walking around. Tell me how moral that is.

He was boning up on the Uniform Code of Military Justice while waiting for his serial draft deferments and Daddy’s Doctor’s Medical Excuse letter.

Trying to interfere with due process of law is one of his specialties.

I wouldn’t setence anybody to death, Manson included. WTF are you on about?

It’s not. But your whole post is a non-sequitur. What are you on about?

War isn’t black and white. It is full of ambiguity.
