Discussion: Trump Says He'll Plow Ahead With Border Wall Without A Reimbursement Arranged

So, then, I’m paying for it? But I’m not Mexico!

I will be interested to hear the “fiscal conservatives” (as if) response now that Joe Taxpayer is footing the bill for this monstrosity.

I guess we’re all Mexico now. Better brush up on my Spanish over a lunch of taco salad and mass quantities of tequila…

And when I say I’ll plow ahead, I mean Mike Pence will do the actual work. Donald Trump makes pronouncements. Donald Trump does not do “work”.

I’m assuming t this point, the GOP establishment including Pres. Pence, is just ignoring Rump completely and dealing with the reality at hand. Let Rump go out there and let his crazy fly. It makes no diff to them.

Until it does.

Somebody check me. Didn’t Trump say he’d have an agreement from Mexico to pay for the wall by his third day in office? Now he wants 18 months?

He’s a billionaire and he’s certain Mexico will reimburse us. Let him front the money.

Silly taxpayers. When Trump said Mexico would pay for wall he was just being sarcastic.

So much easier and more effective to just impose crushing fines on any business who hires an illegal. And the IRS can tell you where the illegals are by the duplicate and fake Social Security Numbers they use. We don’t need a wall, and those who come to the U.S. to spend money should always be welcome. The policy issue is whether they are permitted to work.

Trump: I will kill ObamCare and savings from it will build The Fence. It will be free for all. Amerika will be satisfied and so will the govt of rapists.

Mexico will not pay for “the wall”. They have nothing to gain from that wall, so no stake in it. If Trump were a quarter the businessman he claims he would see that.

If money is extracted from Mexico it will be under duress, and likely an act of war. One possibility is that Trump enacts highly illegal punitive tariffs on goods coming over the border from Mexico, which will raise prices here in the US by much more than we gain (Economics 101 says so). Another possibility is that Trump drops all coyness and threatens Mexico with military action if they don’t send tribute our way, which would also of course be both illegal and an act of war. The last possibility, and the only “legal” one, is that Trump makes a deal which benefits Mexico by far more than the funds Mexico sends to the US, essentially buying the $40B for the “wall” with $80B in kick-backs to Mexico (or $1B in bribes to the right people, but then that would be illegal again).

The simple fact is that the ONLY legal way that the US gets money from Mexico is if Mexico is getting something out of it. There are such things as we-both-win deals, so it is possible for Mexico to get more out of a deal than it costs us to make. But given that Mexico gets nothing from a border wall, any such mutually-beneficial deal could just as easily and more cheaply be done without the border wall and its $40B cost overhead.

The simple truth is that the “wall” will cost us $40B to build, and additional billions to maintain year over year. No matter how you sugar-coat and obfuscate it, that is the cost to keep ~100k people from coming into the US each year. No one benefits from that except the Trump administration (and them only because they have overhyped how many people come over the border to their supporters who honestly believe that tens of thousands of Mexicans routinely organize and storm the border as Trump showed in his first campaign video). Any extraction of payments from anyone else could be done without the $40B cost of the wall.

here’s how to figure out who is paying for the wall:

Mexico… Mexi… Mex … Me. ME?!

Exactly. Deficits are only an issue when there is a Democrat in the White House, or when Democrats have the majority in the House and/or Senate.

You could do that, but I hope you have a veggie garden at home because there won’t be veggies to speak of at the grocery store. You want to go out to dinner? Bring your own dishes, or maybe a credit card with a large limit. Going to a hotel? Bring your own sheets and spray cleaner. Building a home? You may finally have to pay union wages to American workers vs hiring the guy standing in the Home Depot parking lot. You reap what you sow.

So…FK Congress, the American taxpayer, or anybody else. He wants it! We’re gonna pay for it and then he’ll just tell us how LAME Mexico is for not going along with him. Swell.

Donald’s never let having enough money keep him from doing anything as long as he’s not ultimately responsible for paying. Why should he start now.

Reminds me of his scam selling shares of a holding company to rubes, to make money off one of his bankruptcies.

And any mention of him being a “billionaire” must be preceded with "self-claimed“: we still haven’t seen his tax returns.

As POTUS, he might finally be able to join the club “legitimately” so to speak.

According to the article, he said “Mike Pence is leading an effort to get final approvals through various agencies and through Congress for the wall to begin.”

So he sent Pence out to get the permits?
