Welp, from now on until basically forever the United States will be regarded as the world’s attractive but undateable wack job. Trade partnerships, defense alliances, every international relationship will be seen as completely instable. We could toss him tomorrow but it wouldn’t matter because we elected him in the first place. We’re in for decades of global decline at a minimum, a malaise-ridden former power, a giant version of postwar England, and that’s if we’re lucky.
It could of course be much worse than that, nightmarishly, civilization-endingly worse. As long as some people are asking the question.

I will always wonder if Trump is serving the interest of a foreign power because he believes in what he’s doing, or if he is essentially betraying the United States for his own gain, or if he is being blackmailed. I’ve always leaned towards door #3, but it is probably a mix of all of them.

This @$$hole keeps defending his win against meanie democrats, while the ALEC lobbyists are conspiring with Congress to pass legislation that will make Trump the most unpopular president ever. An then the congresscritters will blame him for dragging down the GOP and will impeach him on time for the 2018 elections. Mike Pence is an idiot, but that doesn’t mean that he can’t stab Trump in the back.
Meanwhile the idiots in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania are tired not of winning but of waiting for something resembling a win to come by.

Agreed. Most definitely mixed in there is self-dealing – it’s in his blood. And, yeah, I can see a realistic possibility of him being blackmailed because he’s so easily manipulated on multiple levels – praise his ass and you’re his best friend. He’s been known for a long time to cheat on his wives, and this actually has been said to be exactly whats Putin holds over him. On one of his past visits to Moscow, the story goes he was caught with his pants down (literally) – his hotel was bugged and had hidden cameras.

I’m not anywhere near going down this road yet, but with all the talk on the right about Trump winning the popular vote without California, it should prove a useful reminder of the consequences to the United States if you exclude California’s economic prowess along with its votes.
Not to mention the $370 billion dollars California sends to DC that we don’t come close to getting back.

then a serious discussion needs to be had about whether we are truly a Federal Republic. You can have the Electoral College, but you can’t then turn around and claim the Federal Government has the right to regulate state marijuana markets where no interstate commerce exists.
I’m not sure a country where a man who won 46% of the vote and finished second, can overturn the will of 60% of the electorate on a purely state issue can still be considered a Federal Republic or a Democracy.
