Discussion: Trump Says Congress Shouldn't Prioritize Gutting 'Unfair' Ethics Watchdog

The first priority of this group of Republicans is to ensure that they can do whatever they like without oversight or consequences.

Gutting the Ethics Office is a logical first step towards that end.

They may hafta answer for it in 2018

The only reason trump is complaining about this is because he doesn’t know what the meaning of “ethics” is. He probably got it mixed up with “esthetics.” Something noticeably absent in the decor of his properties.

Yeah…‘unfair’ Ethics Watchdog committee…it will be ‘fair’ when it’s corrupted by partisan politics but shouldn’t have been the FIRST thing they did…they should have snuck it in…

Silly Donald, cutting anything to do with republican “ethics” will always be their first priority!

drumpf’s actual meaning…what are you doing …do what you do best put this piece of legislation in the middle of another bill that has nothing to do with this so the public wont know what your really doing…sheeesh I thought you would know better how to be corrupt by now…seems I’m going to have to teach you all how to phuck people over the good old fashioned way…by twitter

How? They have the White House, the House is gerrymandered, and they’re only defending 8 Senate seats in 2018. Only two of those seats are regarded as vulnerable.

Shorter Drumpf: “I don’t see how I can make any money off this move!!?!!”

Reading between the lines, I think Trump is saying Putin has not yet approved this gutting.

The time between now and the mid-term elections is about twelve political lifetimes.

Given the conservatives’ penchant for overreach, chances are they’ll be in much worse shape then.

A must read on the subject:

Same thing here in OH-2. Ryan, a staffer in Congresscritter Wenstrup’s office, said he didn’t know how Wenstrup voted in caucus, but,

The floor vote will be held later today. I’ll be glad to let you know how the Congressman votes on the floor.

I told Ryan that I know how to find out how the Congresscritter votes on the floor. I pointed out that the important vote was taken in caucus last night and that was the information I’m seeking. Ryan said he would get that information and get back to me. I shan’t hold my breath while I wait.

Donnie, when have the Hill GOP ethics watchdogs brought any charges against Republicans?

Mr Trump, you just can’t help but open your mouth and expose your ignorance.

It is the substance here that is the question not the priorities. If the house wished to change the rules that they use to govern themselves then this is in fact the time to make those changes… at the beginning of the session. That is when rules changes are SUPPOSED to get put in place.

Your ‘priorities’ tweet was lame and cowardly.

This was a before-session-starts rules change, so they haven’t broken that screw-America-first promise. Yet.

I think the more audacious, criminal and damaging Congress’ behavior the more they’ll be rewarded by voters at the polls. Trump bragged about committing sexual assault and still won the Presidency. Apparently there is no such thing as disqualifying behavior on the part of the GOP in the minds of the voters. I predict Republicans will enlarge their Congressional majorities, and the more skeevy and underhanded their behavior in the next two years the better in terms of their electoral prospects.

Don’t get carried away, now. There’s at least a couple miles of rough road separating tRump from sanity.

Mel (and his writing crew) lifted that line (paraphrased) from Treasure of the Sierra Madre :
