Careful!
Comparing Donald Trump to Satan is a good way to get sued for slander…
By the devil…
Mainstreaming the Trump Nazi is the devil’s work…
is there a better example of old SNL vs new SNL? Carvey just sits there and does his thing, and it’s implicitly funny. The Cruz guy screams because screaming is evidently funny.
i thought this cold open could have been a lot better.
The skit had the potential to be really funny. It so wasn’t, and reminded me once again why I stopped watching so very many decades ago. The fact I just typed “decades” and not “years” or “episodes” is itself part of the problem.
For as long as there has been an SNL, there’s been someone claiming they don’t watch it anymore and “it’s not as funny as it used to be.”
Doesn’t make it not true though. I watched the earliest stuff – including in recent years via DVD – and it was side-splitting funny at times. Not always, but often. I watched that skit there with Carvey doing his Church Lady thing and didn’t even crack a smile.
Maybe the Russkies were doing radio skits in October 1941. They probably WERE. During a national emergency, humour is a powerful uplifter.
I care more about people’s realization that Trump presents a National Emergency–just as the Russians were on to their situation in 1941.
However, if this SNL stuff is supposed to “normalize”, “lighten” and “make more human” the most dangerous American in the world right now, I’ll pass…
TPM:
Past members imitated Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump in a sketch on “Saturday Night Live” that imagined what it would be like if Cruz turned into Satan.
I haven’t seen the sketch, but I hope someone used the line, “Vote for the greater evil!”
Or at least some variant of it, like “Why vote for the lesser evil?”
That God-damned church lady is one of the funniest characters I’ve ever seen and I go back to Sid Caesar, Lucile Ball.
This sexually repressed, probably unmarried creature is just brilliant.
