Discussion for article #243137
“Here are four possible sources for Trump’s mistaken recollection.”
No. 5. He is a liar.
I have a friend who insists that a Democratic lawmaker praising the attacks from the Capital steps on the day of September 11th. He wasn’t “lying.” He earnestly remembers this.
Eight years of Bush politics will do this to you. A shame there was never a reckoning for any of them.
Trump’s stating power shows one thing: Americans are idiots.
What I don’t get, for the life of me is…why the lying? Why perpetuate false stories? How can this be anything but fear mongering? Can one of you educated people explain this to me? If they insist on wanting to stoke fear and anti-Muslim rhetoric, aren’t there enough TRUE EXAMPLES of extremist Muslim terrorism they can use, that they don’t need to resort to this? Is it just to say that we’re infiltrated already, and must cleanse? Are they really playing this card? Can this card be the path to victory? Is polling showing this? Or they just throwing shit against a wall and seeing what sticks?
My guess.
I think this is all part of Trump’s basic DNA. He is a salesman, who has always exaggerated and overstated whatever was necessary to make his sale. He is also a carnival barker, a huckster, and has never been held accountable for his statements. You can’t help noticing that his lies are ALWAYS intended to benefit himself or make himself look more important or successful.
I suppose in some respects he can’t help himself since it is part of who he is. He lacks the ability to self reflect or to do any sort of critical thinking. He reacts, he acts out, he shouts back when challenged.
Real presidential…
It was the Middle East, not New Jersey… an easy mistake to make
Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson joined GOP rival Donald Trump in claiming that he, too, saw news footage of Muslim-Americans cheering as the World Trade Center towers fell on Sept. 11, 2001 – despite the fact that no such footage has turned up yet.
“I saw the film of it, yes,” Carson told reporters at a Monday campaign event, adding that it was documented by “newsreels.”
But later that day, he walked back his comments, telling ABC News that he “was thinking of the Middle East, not New Jersey.”
Just saw on NBC news that Trump is standing by his lie and insisting it did happen because he has, and I quote: “The world’s greatest memory.”
What amazes me is that people will still buy into his ignorant bs bragging.
Mr. The Donald Trump is one ill puppy. Brags about masturbating to his daughter. Swears he has President Barack Obama’s real birth certificate framed and hanging on his bedroom wall. Knowingly hires Mexican rapists. Tells Iowa Republican voters they are dumber than two-day old doggie shit (when it’s really only one-day old poo). Brags openly that he fucked Megyn Kelly so hard that she bled. Won’t even commit to fucking Carly Fiorina – all because, he says, she’s a terrible CEO and that she won’t promise to bleed afterward.
Mr. The Donald Trump – Representing the Best of Today’s GOP!
Edit: Now, how is any of this more outrageous than what Mr. The Donald has been spewing these past few months?
A highly publicized video of Muslims cheering and flashing victory signs on the day of the attack was shot in the Israeli-occupied West Bank of Palestine, not in the Garden State.
I would have made the same mistake, the West Bank skyline very closely resembles that of Eastern New Jersey.
I think this is exactly right. And he’s never been in an environment where he’s had to account for what he says.
I’ve been entertained by the outlandishness and absurdity of claims made by Ben Carson and Donald Trump. But it isn’t funny anymore. It is beyond pathetic. I am embarassed to belong to the same species of people who would chose to vote for someone for president because they share the same biases and believe in the same internet rumors. These people seem to have no idea how government even works, or what the president’s role is. I’ve never been one to bash public education before, but I have to wonder how people got so stupid. Surely they weren’t all homeschooled.
Ehh, Gaza, Jersey, all the same to him.
It’s a YOOOGE memory, that’s very luxurious.
People had all sorts of strange reactions to the events on the morning of 9/11. I went to teach my college American history classes that morning, but I couldn’t function. None of the students in the class had heard anything about the attacks, and I broke the news to them, most of them were just confused. So, I took the class to the student lounge which was the one room on campus with cable TV.
As we watched the footage of the attacks replayed on CNN, I answered questions from the students. Some students cried, some simply sat in silence. But three young men, were busily talking to each other and pointing to the footage with smiles on their faces. When footage of the second aircraft striking was shown again, these three young (white) men cheered, and shouted “fuck yea!”
Why? Because they didn’t know how to react. They had no context for what was happening, footage of crashes is cool, and as young American men they could not be sad, they could not weep (as I had already done). They could simply high-five and shout “duuuuude”. I called them on it, and they got quiet, but the combination of naivety, machismo, and inappropriate exuberance was really creepy to see.
Didn’t refute much, although it is hard or impossible to prove a negative. The Reuters video aired by CNN and republished by TPM shows Palestinians actually cheering the monstrous sneak attack (as do other videos of the day). That these whoops were in mid-East doesn’t mean a few like-minded haters in USA didn’t cheer along, even if there is no surviving video or other record.
I doubt all this hurts Trump in primary; general could be a bit different but not sure.
That could be the reason; you probably know better as you were there. There was definitely a talking head from the “militia movement” who praised the attackers’ “courage” and wished his own band of misfit nincompoops was so brave.
I didn’t know that the Bin Laudens that Bush let out of the country days after 911 had digs in Jersey City.
If you’ve been to parts of North Bergen you would realize it is an easy mistake to make
