Discussion: Trump’s Recent Shellacking Pries Open The Door For A 2020 Challenger

Has the Southern Poverty Law Center officially designated the GOP as a “Hate Group” yet?

If not, why not?

Correct. No GOP blue-state governor can survive a GOP primary. Unless Hogan announcement tops drumpf’s such as: “Enslave the blacks!! Deport Obama to Kenya.” He won’t get anywhere.

The GOP base doesn’t want red meat. It wants race hate.

Maybe Hogan’s presidential candidacy announcement can include an attack on Native Americans. Remember how those bastards in North Dakota want “special” voting privileges to complement their luxurious, government (er, white people) subsidized and donated reservations?

Hogan can complain about everthing done for the “injuns” and how those ingrates want to ban the tomahawk chop and remove the redskins name form the Washington NFL team. Losers!!

But could be a winner for Hogan.

From The Devil’s Dictionary (by Ambrose Bierce)

(1) RED-SKIN, n. A North American Indian, whose skin is not red—at least
not on the outside.

(2) HATCHET, n. A young axe, known among Indians as a Thomashawk.

"O bury the hatchet, irascible Red,
For peace is a blessing," the White Man said.
The Savage concurred, and that weapon interred,
With imposing rites, in the White Man’s head."

To be honest I was too busy looking at the olive green uniform with the epaulets to pay attention to the Maryland flag. To me, that’s a red flag for a military-dictator wannabe.

How do you fit this tidbit into the equation?

None of them has the slightest chance in a primary. The republican party is now Trump’s party, if somone wants to challenge him he has to do it from the right, basically needs to out-Trump Trump.

I’m not sure it would be appropriate to give that particular label to the mentally challenged.

He had been spending much of it on lawyers related to the Russia stuff. Haven’t seen anything lately but I’d imagine that’s still the case.

Between House investigations and the release of the Mueller report, there’s no way he’ll be nominated again. Not to mention the memory of this shutdown won’t fade from the minds of those affected. So, yes, he’ll continue to raise money for 2020 and take as much of it as he can for himself.

@tpr For a lot of reasons trumpp will see the only thing he has left is to resign but not before he cuts a deal with Pence to pardon him. Pence cannot say no to this (also for a lot of reasons not fully apparent yet) and we’ll see a replay of Ford pardoning Nixon and a Democrat winning the next election

People better hope Hogan doesn’t challenge Trump. A moderate blue state Republican would beat any Dem he ran against. Hell Hogan won Maryland a BLUE state by 10 points with a large Dem/black vote crossover.

Thing was in polls people seemed to prefer Ben Jealous’s policies, but in the end still wouldn’t ‘vote for a Dem’. The Dems have a BRAND PROBLEM. 40% will never vote for a Dem because of that brand even when they support the policies. Add in enough Dems that are open to all sides, and a bleu state Republican wins nationally in todays environment I think.

There are a number of ongoing NY State based investigations, and I’m not sure he’ll be able to get out of the way of those charges.

Yes. The calculation he and his family have to make is whether to hunker down and use presidency to shield himself from prosecution or cut an amnesty deal with Mueller in return for packing up and leaving town.

With the Stone indictment, Mueller has walked right up to the front door of Trump’s home. If he walks through that door and starts producing evidence that Trump or his family conspired with a foreign enemy to illegitimately win the Oval Office, I don’t think Justice Dept policy against indicting sitting presidents will protect him.

Don’t forget Bob Corker and Nikki Haley

I thought that was a picture of Glen Beck.
I guess it must be Larry Hogan.

The DOJ policy on this is being looked at more carefully, and Ken Starr at the very least is saying that in fact a sitting president can be indicted.

A newfound memo from Kenneth W. Starr’s independent counsel investigation into President Bill Clinton sheds fresh light on a constitutional puzzle that is taking on mounting significance amid the Trump-Russia inquiry: Can a sitting president be indicted?

“It is proper, constitutional, and legal for a federal grand jury to indict a sitting president for serious criminal acts that are not part of, and are contrary to, the president’s official duties,” the Starr office memo concludes. “In this country, no one, even President Clinton, is above the law.”

That’s the ritualistic effect of marketing going amok…as barracudas of all types go for the “bulk-of-the-people” …and then sink lower and lower.

While in the process actually turning more “moderate” people into bigger wingnuts.

Imagine a person a feckless and cowardly as Jeb Bush or “Myth” Romney trying to appeal to GOP voters in this environment.

It literally is the equivalent of inciting a lynch mob, enraging people to the point of homicidal mania and then saying:

“Let’s get together and love all people”
