“the flip-side of that is that people have less incentive to risk it”

“people” meaning republicants, getting to the point where defining repubes as people is getting tough for me, I might use the term “assholes” as a replacement

“What if we do THIS!?!?!?!”

“Good idea…let’s get something done!”

“Oh wait, guys…guys…GUYS!!!”

“What’s that?”

“You can’t do that or it will take away major talking points for November…not to mention get rid of an issue we hope suppresses Dem turnout!!!”

“Oooooooooh, riiiight…WE NEVER SUPPORTED THAT!!!”

What, aren’t you as excited as I am to watch GOPers condescend to liberals/Dems and the Dreamer community by scolding Dems for letting the Dreamers down? I sure am. It’s going to be glorious, especially since there’s a growing segment of Dreamers out there who are falling for it. Don’t believe me? Use your Googles.

I just refer to them as entities. Neutral-ish, doesn’t elevate them to that which they refuse to be: Caring, pragmatic humans.

He probably saw an all gold prototype yesterday in San Diego that he’s dying to put the Trump stamp on.

I suppose he wants a wall to rally his base for the midterms. Democrats should resist.

“If you’re trying to help people plan their futures and plan their lives”

HAHAHAHAHA!!! That’s precisely the OPPOSITE of what the GOPers are doing. Their methbilly constituents…in particular, their methbilly constituents’ methbilly children…can’t compete with Dreamers because of all the deliberate destruction the GOP and its plutocrat masters have wrought on rural communities, public education, etc. It’s one of the primary reasons for the white fright they feel, which motivates them to screw the urban centers where “those people” are concentrated and it’s precisely why they don’t want Dreamers to be able to plan their futures/lives.

The tiny glitchy hangup here is the POTUS is running his office like a protection racket, and if he doesn’t get immigration limited to Norwegians who sign a Deplorability Oath, then that’s a nice bunch of Dreamers you have there, too bad if something bad like deportation were to happen to them. It’s an old-fashioned shakedown just like when America used to be great for gangsters.

Rep. Mario Diaz Balart (R-FL)–

“While I’m happy that the DACA folks have a bit of a breathing space, the flip-side of that is that people have less incentive to risk it, to do real negotiations,” he said. “That pressure is gone and we only work with pressure and deadlines. So I’m relieved for the DACA folks, but it hasn’t been helpful in that sense. We need to find a longterm solution, but the momentum is gone.”

La, la, la . . . and in the meantime, other people–DACA folks, in particular–are dealing with pressures compared to which mid-term elections are pretty small potatoes.

Nice DACA you got there…shame if something should happen to it…

I’m not in favor of punting. I’m in favor of dropping DACA and using my foot to kick it down the field. I’m the GOP nominee for the Congressional Ray Guy Award.

I think this comment needs to be repeated, a lot. (My bolds)

We need to find a long term solution, but the momentum is gone.”

Jeebus, if I tried that at my work, I’d be fired.

Here’s an idea for ya, Gopper Congressentity, if you can only work when you’re being threatened, you need to leave Congress and go work for the circus or something. FFS, normal people work to get their work done, because that’stheir responsibility and why they get paid, they don’t need threats every day to get anything done.

I guess this explains why republicans suck so much. They were all abused in some way as children and only learned the victim mentality. And that’s why they project that crap on everyone else, African Americans, Mexicans, Poors etc.

They really need a massive intervention and to be removed from their current environment. I suggest we move them to someplace isolated like Papau New Guinea or the bottom of Lake Baikal or better yet, the parts of the Antarctic ice shelf floating in the Pacific Ocean.

Maybe we can impose work requirements on gopper congress entities before we pay them. And that we pay them is an outrage.

That hit me when I read it too. You don’t run a country on nonstop crisis terms.

GodDAMN!

Wonder how he would feel about doing away with the “one foot” policy regarding Cuban refugees.

"Several GOP lawmakers, including Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ), told TPM that—at least while there’s a court injunction—passing a short-term fix would be worse than passing nothing at all.
‘The temporary timeline is one of the greatest cruelties,’ he said. ‘If you’re trying to help people plan their futures and plan their lives, let’s come up with a permanent solution.’”

So, the courts’ calendars, whatever they may be, and the unknown outcome of the (probably) Supreme Court’s decision is a much less cruel temporary timeline, provides more stability and let’s people plan their futures and plan there lives in a much more meaningful, less stressful way than passing a sure 3 year fix while a permanent solution is found…under a Democratic Congress.

AllI really see here is a stupid, botched negotiation on Trump’s part. He left himself no leverage and that’s that. I don’t see the GOP effectively painting Dems with DACA, either, for two reasons: #1, the aforementioned lack of urgency due to Trump’s convenient, news-cycle driven explosion of the deadline, and, #2, those battle lines are already hardened. Democrats and swingers who go for Trump do it for purely selfish reasons. The GOP as the party of altruism? No chance.

This why most modern governments no longer rule by fiat.

After feelin’ a fake high for the past week, Trump has come crashing down to earth in a job he hates. He lost PA-18. His people didn’t turn out for him. A fair number of Trump precincts shifted blue.

This DACA gambit crashed and burned before it got out of the gate. He can have his wall in exchange for full comprehensive immigration reform + DACA + pathway to citizenship. Nothing less.

His two nominees for SOS and CIA are going to run into some choppy waters.

His cabinet has scandal upon scandal growing and brewing.

He now has two (current/former) members of his FP team blame Russia for the chemical attacks in the UK.

Stormy Daniels’ attorney is eating Cohen’s lunch.

His quixotic NK meeting with Kim looks to be on life support.

His tariff policy vs China is not being well received.
