Discussion: Trump Risks Harming His Own Supporters By Cutting O'Care Subsidies

The harm is not a risk. It is real. Remember when the criticism was that people were taking him literally but not seriously?

Probably a significant number of his supporters are in the “Government keep your hands of my Medicare” crowd. These people don’t mind getting hurt as long as people of color are put in their place.

There’s another election in a year. If red state folk are truly upset, they can start by voting their way out of this mess. I won’t hold my breath hoping they do the right thing.

Aah, isn’t the new smell of freedom thanks to Trump/GOP just wonderful? No more Obama death panels. Getting the jackboot off your neck so you can be healthy again. The free market will thrive and, as Trump promised, better, cheaper, covers everybody! Everybody! Oh, not you? What, are you a loser, one of the lazy Those People, or some kind of illegal? Clearly not Real Americans so you don’t deserve to live, or can just suffer and suffer. Winning! Bigly! (In case it’s not clear) /snark

Yes, but there is the phenomenon known as “the Stockholm Syndrome.”

This might be good news if I thought it would wake these people up. But I don’t. The Trumpers who will be harmed have proven themselves too stupid to live. They will gobble up some batshit crazy Bannon article that blames their misery on HRC, and then they’ll die of some curable disease still loving Trump. I GIVE UP

Who did these people who are “shocked” vote for?

And what, pray tell, is this “free market health care” solution?

If I were a Rep. Bigg’s constituent in AZ I would send him the bill for the difference in what they are paying now to what they’ll be paying next year.
“…he is doing everything possible to save Americans from crippling health care costs and decreasing quality of care,” Biggs said.”

And those constituents that are covered under employer offered insurance should do the same.

Your fear is confirmed in the last paragraph where Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) praises the EO as proof that DT “is doing everything possible to save Americans from crippling health care costs and decreasing quality of care.” That is the line the GOP and right wing media will repeat ad nauseam, the ACA was a dismal failure and you are now freed from the dictates of an oppressive government and can now go back to the future of unaffordable insurance with annual and life time caps.

@lastroth Biggs would simply tell them the premium increases were the result of the failure of the ACA. They are now free to buy DT approved insurance through an interstate association. Much cheaper. Much better. Unless you get sick or are injured. Who knew health insurance was so complicated.

He’s pushing toward harming everybody when it comes to health care. He is keeping his promise to get rid of Obamacare, but with no plan to replace it with the better, cheaper health care that covers everybody which was the second part of the promises. Anything to erase what Obama accomplished - that’s the important thing. What happens after that, not so much. It’s interesting that cutting off the cost-sharing subsidies to insurance companies will end up costing the government more in taxpayer dollars when tax credits end up bigger due to increased premiums for those who buy from the marketplace. I wonder how Republicans feel about that? They’re going to have to do some things just to save themselves from their own party’s so-called president.

On the bright side, they will still get to die as white people with too many guns.

[/quote]Yeah, but causing real and significant harm to people is relatively easy and quite simple.

He’s simply on a vendetta, all due to Obama’s remarks about him at that WH Corresponents’ Dinner way back when. Everyone laughed; he sat there and steamed. This just might flip both houses on Capital Hill.

Roughly half of the estimated 71,000 Kentuckians buying health insurance on the federal exchange were benefiting from the cost-sharing subsidies Trump just ended. Despite the gains from Obama’s law, the state went for Trump last fall even as he vowed to repeal it.

I’m not holding my breath waiting, but can’t the Congress pass legislation to nullify any of these executive orders? Funny how we all seem to have forgotten how our government is actually supposed to work. Also, too, where are all the Republicans crying about “dictatorship”? Oh, that’s right, it was only a problem when Obama did it. Effing hypocrites.

And they’ll still blindly support him because “not being a liberal” and ‘hating the left’ is the political identity of so many in this country now after 40 years or right wing propaganda.

And if you think the ‘moderate’ republicans will flee to support Dems, good luck with that. One thing we on the left should have learned over the course of the past year in American politics is: Given the choice between a radical Republican and a moderate Democrat, “moderate” Republicans will choose the radical. Every single time.
