Think about it. Trump’s twitter response is the perfect expression of his (intentional?) misunderstanding of misplaced shaming that was common for the pre #metoo era. In fact, it’s what he used to gain/maintain power. And the reason he was so ‘successful’ at it is that shame is an emotion he has never felt. Fundamentally unfit as a public official. Fundamentally unfit as a human being.

GOP is pushing an independent attorney to do the questioning of Ford and Kavanaugh. They want the hearing on Wednesday and they want her to go first, Kavanaugh second.
I think committee members have to do the questioning. I’m ok with Wednesday and her going first so long as she gets wide latitude on her opening statement.

I think I read somewhere (maybe another TPM article?) that Ford has asked to be questioned by the Senators themselves rather than a lawyer. She’s calling them out for their cowardice.

Yeah the moment I read that they wanted outside counsel to do the questioning, I knew they wanted a woman to do the job. There aren’t any Republican women on the Judiciary Committee and they seem to have realized that the optics of a bunch of crusty old white men interrogating a woman about sexual assault might not look good for them. I guess it’s possible that they may have learned something from issues like having only men writing women’s health policy, though it could just be a fluke.
