For months this notion has been promulgated by Trump. Mexico will pay for âthe wall.â I have yet to encounter a single instance of anyone putting the question to him HOW he plans to effect that part of the plan. There is no mechanism I can think of which allows the chief executive to compel another sovereign country to do anything. There are only a few means a Trump administration could use to even attempt to pressure such a âdealâ: threaten economic sanctions or initiate a trade war. Withholding foreign aid to Mexico would be another way, but Congress is in control of that money, not POTUS. Itâs unconscionable that not a single media outlet (of which I am aware) has put this question to Trump or his staff with any meaningful answer being obtained. ENOUGH.
