Taken together, the behind-the-scenes talks, the extent and details of which have not been previously reported, highlight how Venezuela’s political and economic crisis has received top attention under Trump in a way that was unimaginable in the Obama administration.
What unimaginable in that the Obama administrations action were firmly based in reality and not adolescent power fantasies?

Sounds like it’s Venezuela that needs a bigly border wall, to keep the orange menace out…

Why is the story coming out now?

Perhaps because Trump, having blown it on North Korea, being constrained on immigration by a Congress that will not do his bidding, and not really caring about whether he commits treason in the open, will turn to Venezuela soon as the object of his wrath. The oil fields with a Trump logo on them probably look pretty good to him. He does want to return to a time when we overran governments in Latin America routinely, and he probably thinks he can sell it because Maduro is a bad guy.

Under Trump’s leadership, the U.S., Canada and European Union have levied sanctions on dozens of top Venezuelan officials, including Maduro himself, over allegations of corruption, drug trafficking and human rights abuses.

So, drug trafficking may not be on the list of things on this administration’s head. But based on the other things, shouldn’t our government impose sanctions on members of Trump’s cabinet?

And, yes. I concur that Trump is absolutely out of his fucking mind.

If you look closely at Trump you see a 19th century man dealing with 21st century problems. He wants to engage in the gunboat diplomacy that characterized the 1890s and 1900s.

What in the world does that mean? What part is “unimaginable in the Obama Administration”? That Venezuela was receiving “top attention”? That it was receiving attention, “in a way”? Whatever “way” the AP writer means…
