Discussion: Trump Renominates Picks Who Were Sidelined In The Senate Last Year

McFarland and Brownback shouldn’t be allowed near anything of importance in government but the two judge picks seem to be way more qualified than Trump’s usual garbage. I assume that they are extremely right-wing (par for the course) but both are former judicial clerks with trial experience and Teeter is an AUSA. I actually think it’s the ABA that is wrong this time in rating her unqualified.

Assumes facts not in evidence.

He was revealed to be the one taking meds for Alzheimer’s after it came out that those were among the pharmaceuticals being delivered to Congress.

“I’m, like, really smart.”

Kids standing around Starbucks use “I’m like” with every sentence. Can we assume he’s reliving his teenage years.

It’s been shown that Trump speaks on a 4th-grade level.
So he’s reliving his elementary school years.

The tweets are bad, and it’s just as painful to listen to him speak extemporaneously.

“I went to the best colleges for college. I went to a — I had a situation where I was a very excellent student.”

But 49 / 49 really means 50 / 49 with Pence being the tie breaker.

“Trump also renominated GOP Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback to be the ambassador at large for international religious freedom.”

Is this something that the Trump administration just made up? Since when is “religious freedom” abroad a concern of the State Department? Actually, the job should be to promote freedom from religion.

Just what we need - and idiot fundi poking a stick in various hornets’ nests.

The only question I have… Does Mueller indict her before or after she gets her confirmation hearing?

I hate these people, I hate these people, I hate these people.

That is all.

One should add Chuck Grassley to the list of 80 somethings that should “enjoy” the rest of their lives somewhere other than the U.S.Senate.

Who is the ambassador for freedom from religion ?

of course, but they have zero room for error. One defection is all it takes.

This is part and parcel of showing government is bad… by making it bad by putting in unqualified people. This is basically part of Bannon’s strategy for undermining government so that it will collapse, so he will be there rebuild it. Very foolish. You can’t make this stuff up. They don’t want to improve government. Rather, they want to topple it, thinking they will then be able to remake it. Who gets hurt by this strategy is simply collateral damage to them.

It’s not as if there’s a lot of competent people lining up to be contenders for these positions. I imagine that even some attorneys and judges who would be highly qualified nominees to the federal bench would rather wait for the next president rather than being stained with the label “Trump appointee to the Court.”

Really? And what’s your basis for thinking she’s unqualified other than the asshole-in-chief nominating her?

Because the ABA’s stated reason was that, at the time of the nomination, she had 11 years, 11 months of legal experience instead of their preferred 12 years. That month downgrades her all the way from “qualified” to “unqualified”?

She was on law review, graduated first in her class, clerked for several years, and is currently serving as an AUSA. There’s a reason she received majority support from the Democrats on the committee.

If the ABA rates someone as “unqualified,” I am ready to take their word for it because they know more about it than I do.
I’m not a lawyer, but I know a lot of them, and they take ABA ratings very seriously.
Too bad you don’t.

I guess there is a limited amount of people who want to MAGA at Donnie’s side…

Don’t you worry, the rubber-stamp Senate will confirm anyone he sends up. They are the real problem, aiding and abetting the Trump criminal conspiracy. Imagine if we had a Democratic majority there instead…and that they learned the lesson of “opposition” perfected by McConnell and his fellow quislings.

If he ever had a “situation” where he was an excellent student it must have been for the single nanosecond that he kept his mouth shut.

Weirdly, one of them is a “smidgen” more qualified (if not necessarily more competent), at least by ABA standards. One of the reasons that the ABA rated Teeter "not qualified " was that her legal experience fell just short of the 12 years ABA sets as a standard. So now she’s just four months shy of the magic 144-month mark.
There’s ample evidence that inexperience and incompetence are no bars to winning the backing of Donnie Two Scoops – but it’s worth noting that Ms. Teeter’s nomination was supported in the Judiciary Committee by Senators Feinstein, Leahy, Durbin, Whitehouse, Klobuchar, Franken, Coons and Blumenthal. Only Sen. Hirono voted “no.” More here: http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2017/nov/08/teeter-judicial-nomination-dealt-setback/
