Discussion: Trump Rejects GOP Emergency Declaration Compromise, Setting Up Rebuke

The senator cautioned that Trump’s position may still change —“It is only Wednesday, and it is the Trump administration.”

If you don’t like Donald Trump’s position on something, just wait a few minutes… it will get worse.

Of course. Why would Trump agree to limit his own future power to declare a national emergency over voter fraud and a fraudulent election in 2020 when he loses?

Will they ever get tired of it?

So, if it passes and Trump vetoes it, what are the steps by which the matter would go to court? Who could bring suit? What court(s)? Immediately to SCOTUS?

Nancy beat you to it. This Mike Lee bullshit was history before it was history.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the House won’t consider Republican legislation intended to curb the power of future presidents to unilaterally declare national emergencies.

Her announcement might make it harder for Republicans to prevent a high-profile rebuff of President Donald Trump’s effort to divert more money to building barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Since one of the 4 votes we need is Susan (Lucy holding the football) Collins, I am very nervous.

“Lee said he talked to the president and the president’s currently not supportive of what he wants,” said one GOP senator.

so here’s footage of Mike Lee trying to stop Trump.

This “no compromise” strategy only works if the military is 100% behind you.

Trump’s move comes just one day after Vice President Mike Pence indicated to Republican senators in a closed-door meeting that Trump was open to Lee’s legislation as a way to avoid an embarrassing public rebuke that would expose rifts within the GOP.

Yet another Pence assurance leaves egg on Republican Senators’ faces.

No-one could’ve predicted this!

Oh wait, yes they could. The only surprise is Individual-1 walking away before he gets his half of the deal.

It’s interesting that the White House a) can’t take yes for an answer from the GOP. b) is working so hard to avoid having to actually veto a bill.

You’d think that Individual-1 would love vetoes. There’s a ceremony, he can posture about how everyone else needs to try harder to please his majesty, etc. But he hasn’t issued a single one and the GOP is working overtime to avoid forcing him to issue this one.

Yep.

In an effort to avoid voting in favor of the House's resolution to terminate Trump’s #FakeEmergency, GOP senators are proposing legislation to allow Trump to violate the Constitution *just this once.*

The House will not take up this legislation to give President Trump a pass.

It’s going to take one hell of a transcendent “massage” to get any contractor in their right mind to bid on this wall project.
