Discussion: Trump Rattles Off The Names Of His Rich Friends And How Much They Donated

Discussion for article #245272

The billionaire said that a list of the veterans organizations that would receive the donations was available in-person at the event.

Hmmm. The elusive recipient list. The spokes-liar went on TV today and said the recipients list was on the website and would be announced at the “rally”, now it’s a bit of a scavenger hunt. Probably just an oversight.

So, what’s the verdict, folks? Did this decision to skip the debate and hold his own event help Trump, or hurt him? My guess is it didn’t hurt him and may have helped him. This move deprived his opponents of a chance to attack him to his face, while he still managed to suck up a good deal of the election-night media with his totally Donald-centric prime-time show, which a competing network helpfully agreed to run live. Oh, and he got to look both patriotic and generous, by raising millions for veterans. On the minus side of the ledger, his opponents got to take free shots at him in the debate (though at least from the part I watched, they barely did other than a few softballs at the outset) and his opponents will be able to say he’s scared to debate them. On balance, it still looks to me like he helped his chances more than he hurt his chances.

was he hinting at Ruffin for Sec of State?

Matthew 23:27-28
27"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed
tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full
of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.
28"So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
…
List the names Donnie! List 'em!. Make 'em seem all righteous! That’s the ticket.

The advantage to trump is he didn’t fuck up on the debate stage by getting caught flat footed. Kelly was gonna be gunning for him for his misogynistic attitude and he knew it. In a rational world a GOPer dissing Fox should be the kiss of death to a campaign. But this is hardly a rational logical year. We are in an alternate universe.

I liked his friend with the same clone wife from the Slavic white slaver, the ex Greek or Argentine military dictator with the Kim Jong-il-style shades…make a nice head of internal security.
A very public skidmark for Donnie, crickets and Taps for the GOP.

I’d agree with that assessment regarding avoiding Kelly. But I don’t think this little stunt did him any favors either. From what I could tell, switching briefly between the debate and CNN’s coverage, it looked like he basically sandbagged Santorum and Huckabee into giving him endorsements at a Trump rally…or at least the appearances of endorsements. They both had to get in front of the podium with “TRUMP 2016” on it…which WILL end up in ads or mailings somewhere.

And the general feeling I got from the talking heads on CNN, which I admit is hardly anything to go on, was that this was pretty much a cluster and will be painted as such in the local media.

Trump 1 for hanging Cruz out to dry. Kelly zero for the crazy hair.

You can stop reading when I say this—I don’t know—but to me the answer is does it or does it not get more people to caucus for Trump on Monday. A smart fella over at Slate named Jim Newell said if Trump wins Iowa after doing this, he’ll deepen the sense that he’s bulletproof in a near-supernatural way. If he loses, he’ll look like a reckless fool. Either way, the person and the situation are unprecedented. I’ve never been to Iowa and haven’t been to the Midwest much generally, but the little knowledge I do have of it makes me wonder how this stunt helps him.

tRump doesn’t want to be POTUS. He wants to be adulated, stroked. In short, he wants to believe that his cock his 5"-plus. Unfortunately for us, it’s not.

tRump is a genius when it comes to blustery self-promotion. After that, everyone is left with the bad hair, bad debts and, well, the short fingers.

Let’s be honest:

Only to the extent that he imagines it would assuage his bottomlessly infantile need for attention. I don’t think he’s imagined for literally one minute the work and stress involved. He’s mentally ill—this is obvious to pretty much all sensible people—and in my own humblest of opinions really, really not that bright.

This would be tRump’s official campaign song, if America had the attention span. Oh, and if the Zappa family gave permission (which, sadly, they never would).

Did anyone else notice that no reputable veterans groups want to be affiliated with tRump, regardless of the lucre.

Up until recently I was convinced that Cruz would take Iowa and then go on to clinch the nomination, and I was basing this in part on the assumption that Cruz was the natural candidate for Republican evangelicals. If you looked at the graphs of support for Carson and Cruz, they mirrored each other almost perfectly when Carson imploded, which said to me Ben’s Bible thumpers were moving to Pastor Ted. The problem for Cruz is that yet again Evangelicals have revealed what Godless hypocrites they are, and are supporting Trump in surprising numbers.

On top of that is the simple fact that most normal humans instinctively loathe Cruz, so when he does step on his dick—like he did with the idiotic “I don’t have any health insurance because Obama”—he doesn’t have a repository of good will to call on. More importantly, Cruz has virtually no open support from anybody of significance among GOP officeholders in D.C., which is remarkable in Republican politics for somebody who’s in the running for the nomination.

There have been articles written over the last couple of months claiming that Cruz’s grass-roots organization across the country is far superior to any other GOP candidate, so it would seem Iowa will be an early test of that.

The one to watch is Rubio. If Rubio outperforms the polls in Iowa, doesn’t have to win, then he will have the momentum.

The contest is really between who ends up as the alternative to Trump. If it is Cruz or Rubio, then one of them will be the nominee.

I don’t think it hurts him with those who are already part of his core support, but it may hurt if he really wants to get above the 30-35% level when it turns into a two person contest.

If what he wants is to just continue to ride that core support and feed his ego, then it won’t make much of a difference. I think he is setting the stage for a third party run claiming he was mistreated.

Trump, IMHO, doesn’t actually want to be President. This stunt, along with his recent antics, convinces me even more.

He wants to just feed his ego, nothing he is doing right now has any hope of expanding his support beyond the 30-35% that it has been since September. In the Luntz focus group everyone thought not showing up was a mistake, except for the three or four who also claimed to be Trump supporters.

The big winner of the night was Rubio. Cruz will do fine and may still, because of his ground game, squeak out a win Iowa, but there is real potential for Rubio to place a close third.
