He's not going to be commanding combat troops. He's not going to be performing surgery. He's not going to be studying sea creatures. He's not going to be a dive instructor. So, he's not going to be doing any of the things he's proven to be proficient.
However, he will be administering the second largest department in the Federal government. Something for which he's demonstrated no proficiency whatsoever. Because this is how Donald rolls.He’ll learn on the job , just like Donald, with maybe the advantage of being able to read and having an attention span greater than 2 minutes

In Trump’s mind yakking and governing/administering are one and the same. I imagine in his business life everyone around him often thought “Would you just STFU so we can get something done?!” He always has to be the center of attention, and for him getting attention means constantly running off at the goddamned mouth to the exclusion of everyone else in the room.

Is it better or worse that Trump didn’t immediately name him the Surgeon General instead?
At least he didn’t make Jackson the head of the FAA and his pilot head of the VA.
For what it is worth the VA is currently under a great deal of pressure to perform for our aging veteran community. It faces a number of difficult but surmountable problems. It needs the right administrator. The last thing it needs is a lifetime physician who has at best run a clinic or maybe a small hospital. Thanks Trump.
So put him in the White House communication office. Not in charge of the 2nd biggest federal agency. I guess he promised to work toward privatizing the VA. Or maybe his incompetence will give Republicans more reasons to argue for it.
That would make more sense, actually.
And, of course, he is a white male.
