Promises, promises, promises. Yadda, yadda, yadda…
When Graham-Cassidy fails, the GOP will have to accomplish both Obamacare repeal and tax cuts in a single reconciliation bill. While I’ve no doubt they can do the magic math to make the numbers work, the politics of it will be horrendous. Add to that the occasional ignorant, unhelpful remark by PotUS, and the whole project might be sunk.
Trump’s details weren’t firm.
He did not say whether
is expected ... behind closed doors ... have promised
Republicans have been split .. are divided over ...
if Republicans followed through on earlier promises ...
He did not offer specifics.
Just a few excerpts to get everybody feeling better about this …
( I used to be wishy-washy … but now I’m not so sure )
“We’re going to bring the individual rate to 10 percent or 12 percent, much lower than it is right now.”
This is one seriously delusional crackpot.
I’m just going to say what so many are thinking: These are the ravings of a syphilitic mind.
How can they do a massive tax cut if they can’t make equally massive cuts to health care? One was supposed to pay for the other.
Don’t be silly, a balanced budget only matters when Dems are in charge.
They will sell off the nation’s infrastructure and our public lands to the highest bidders for starters – i.e., liquidate the United States of America in a garage sale. Of course that will only go so far and will ultimately worsen the deficit as the vast majority of taxpayers loose even more economic ground.
And filtering through the dementia is a lifelong tendency of this carnival barker, snake-oil salesman, and fourth-rate marketing clown to describe things in ridiculous superlatives. It’s not just a tax cut, it’s the yooooogest tax cut in history. He never for a moment stopped to ask himself if this is within a rifle shot of being true. It’s now a decades-old habit by a person who no longer can distinguish fantasy from reality and wouldn’t bother to if he could. To the extent that he has nearly zero interest in or understanding of the legislative process, it doesn’t much matter. But as we have to keep reminding ourselves, this insanity isn’t normal and it’s not healthy to get used to it.
The script is old, faded, and well worn, but I can read most of it and cite the rest from memory.
Before the tax cut passes: the cuts will pay for themselves through higher growth.
After the tax cut passes: entitlements are blowing a hole in the budget and creating massive deficits.
The “largest disconnect from reality in history,” as we have millions of US citizens in the dark, without clean water or power, a $20 trillion debt, large parts of several states trying to recover from floods, wind and fire, the risk of never-ending climatic disasters and a president trying to start a nuclear war… Unbelievable that he is talking about tax cuts…
You forgot the one mitigating factor: the political press. They still operate that Republican ideas are good ideas, which means they’ll carry the GOP’s buckets of slop until the very end without massive pushback from us.
It’s amazing how quickly he shifts gears. It’s almost as if he has the attention span of a small child…almost.
The rate is “going to be substantially lower so we bring jobs back into our country,” Trump said.
That’s what GWB said.
And Reagan.
And Kansas Governor Sam Brownback:
And GWB left an economy doing a nosedive.
And if they don’t run up the deficit now, how can they generate sufficient deficit panic among the Very Serious People when Democrats are back in power?
Tax cuts are the key, eh?
Funny that. In the past two years here in Canada we’ve instituted national carbon pricing, tax increases on the wealthy, universal childcare payments (well over 1000$ per child per month for low or middle income families), launched a major infrastructure spending program, national marijuana legalization, and we are currently closing tax loopholes that can be exploited using shell corporations. Not a single tax cut - but several increases.
Oh - and a shitload of immigration.
We also have 4.5% annual economic growth, the best growth we have had since 2002 and best in the G7. This is after 10 years of the Conservative’s tepid growth (averaged less than 2%) amid a massive program of tax cuts.
At some point, when discussing economics, the evidence should factor into the equation. This is just another example - left wing economics are sensible economics. It’s time to make this fact common knowledge.
After he/they (Trump/repub. party ldrship) finish robbing our health ins., rob a land, poison our air, water and food, while trying to silence our voices, steal our right to vote. Here’s a est. of how much republicare bill effect each state:
