Discussion: Trump Preps Election Day Spin: We Saved The Senate!

That is exactly what I think is going on. I expect women and POC to be underrepresented in polling also. Both those groups came out in droves in VA and ALA during elections last year.

Reminds me of the old saw ā€œThe operation was a success…but the patient died.ā€

I sure hope that is the case; we lived and voted in Virginia last year and it was wonderful to participate and see Dems exceed conventional expectations so greatly!

…and the voters saved the country.

Let’s not forget the Governor races, state legislatures and countywide races. 11/6 isn’t here yet but there could be a big swing there too. You guys should hear some of the radio ads running right now by local Repubs here in Harris County/Houston area. They’re shitting in their pants.

independants/undecided usually break against the party in power. In addition I would expect Trump’s extreme retoric and craziness the last week to push more of low propensity voters into voting and voting D. However, while I think this will help in the house (and we may see 40+ seats switch) and also very important in governors races and state races which will help equalize the map for redistricting, I don’t know how many of both of these types of voters there are in key senate races.

I would expect Trump has cooked Dean Heller and helped Elect Sinima, but it may come at the cost of Heidcamp and perhaps someone like McCaskill. I also think it puts the knife in Breedson.

Best hope is that it puts Beto over the line and we either end up with a 50 senate or 51 seats… fingers crossed.

Sessions has made it a point to take politically sensitive issues directly to the Court without going through the appellate process and his successor will continue that tactic. The Court has already stepped into the political fracas and said Wilbur Ross cannot be deposed in the census-citizenship question case, with Thomas and Gorsuch saying the case should be dismissed out of hand. The GOP will take everything to the Court, the question is how much will the Court accept.

I think what Mueller does will have a big effect on how true this turns out to be.

Hey asshole— how do you know the Senate is going to stay R? Did you rig any of the races? Did your pal Vlad?

I cannot express how happy it would make me for Trump to be wrong on this point. When all is said and done, It would be nice if all Trump can say is ā€œI saved this tie I am wearing. Isn’t it a great tie!ā€

Spoiler alert - he doesn’t.

Dems do not have to impeach Trump.
Just make Trump wish he was impeached.
If they take the House, investigate everything and encourage everyone, every Government, state and local, to push their investigations.
Wealthy Dems, please give your money to help with legal fees.
Hit Dumb Fuck Donnie and his family from all sides.
Release the lawyers!

Not to get too much into cheerleading mode, but everyone should bare in mind, its highly probable that more republicans will cross over this election, than Dems will.

I will never understand a Trump supporter; how can anyone support a person that only thinks of themself?

Because they think only of themselves. And they hate the same people he hates.

We got together last night with a group of our equally politically active friends to watch the first episode of the Watergate Scandal on the History channel. There is no John Dean in this administration but we need a latter day Sam Ervin and Judge Sirica to bring the whole corrupt operation down.

I now abandon my off topic thread and return control of the conversation to the article at hand.

Agreed completely! Even if they hold onto the Senate (personally, I think they’ll do it by the skin of their teeth if at all), the Governor’s houses in the states is shaping up very nicely for the Dems. THAT’S going to give us a real advantage going into 2020 not to mention the entire Rump clan being at the mercy of states’ Attorneys General.

EDIT TO ADD: Rump and the GOP essentially sacrificed Blue State Rethugs for the tax cut debacle. Putting more Governors seats in the Blue column will pretty much negate them altogether.

Here is the classic Beltway stenographic know-nothing ā€˜take’ that amplifies this GOP talking point:

Reminder: the GOP has not yet secured a Senate majority. We have an election on Tuesday. Election upsets happen all the time.

Republicans lose either way.

Even if they do hold the Senate this time around, there’s a much bigger Senate issue for them in 2020 than there ever was in 2018.

Think about it for a moment… if Republicans in the Senate spend the next two years protecting Trump from impeachment and investigation, and obstructing corrections to Trump’s tax mess, what do you folks suppose will happen to them in 2020?

Check out this map… https://ballotpedia.org/United_States_Senate_elections,_2020

And compare it to the one we see this election.

Republicans are on the wrong end of history, in so many ways, it is no wonder they are so desperate.

And then imagine two more years of Senate Republican obstruction and conspiracy in the name of Trump.

2020 may represent the Republican’s last election as a major party. Even their spot as an opposition party could be purloined by Independents if they continue their descent.

If the contempt we are learning towards them in the Trump disaster already is any indication, two more years of McConnell and his twisted deceptions disguised as political gamesmanship can only push them closer to obscurity as a future political power.

Win or lose the Senate this year, Democrats gain advantage either way. Some Republicans already know, the writing is on the wall.

Two more years of McConnell and Trump can’t bode well for their future. The bloodbath in 2020 they suffer will be the only red wave they will ever experience again.

It will make a simple shellacking look like kindness and pity.

It may make our course back to sanity and national unity take a bit longer, but it will make the end result all the more profound.

Once again, Republicans can only lose, both by losing AND by winning.

Only Trump can make that confusing phenomenon happen.
