Discussion: Trump Pledges To End Gun-Free Zones At Schools: 'You Have To' (VIDEO)

Discussion for article #244418

And to set the example, maybe you should also make your speeches “Thug-Free”. The guy that wants gun-nuts to roam our kids’ schools, probably doesn’t want his speech attendees to be armed as well.

Not good enough, Donald.

We need to arm the kids, too, so we have overwhelming force in every classroom.

Cruz: This is not sufficient enough. We need to power 1st graders with guns so that they can protect themselves.
Huckabee: Not far enough. Why not consider arming a fetus/pre-schoolers.
Trump: You all have a valid point.

School safety officer unintentionally discharges gun in high school

After the shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school, the Highland, New York School District began a program to put armed police officers in the district schools. Police Officer Sean McCutcheon, from the town of Lloyd, a twenty year veteran of the New Paltz police department, was assigned to rotate between three of the Highland schools.

On Tuesday, while at the Highland High School, McCutcheon unintentionally discharged his firearm in the school’s hallway. No details of how the discharge happened have been released. The shooting happened about 1:38 p.m. Fortunately, no one was injured.

"I’m just shocked," said a man whose daughter is a sophomore at the school. "I don’t understand how a gun could just go off."

Legislator who wants to put guns in schools shot wrong person during “active shooter” training

Arkansas state Senator Jeremy Hutchinson, of Benton, Arkansas, wants to make it easy for schools to arm teachers or other school personnel. He sits on a legislative committee that is examining the Arkansas law regarding guns in schools. The committee is looking at the laws after the Clarksville school district was thwarted in their attempt to arm two dozen of its teachers and staff members.

After the Sandy Hook shooting, Hutchinson was approached by his local police chief. The Chief had concerns about arming school personnel. His biggest concern was how would police tell the difference between a good guy with a gun and a bad guy with a gun. So, he set up an “active shooter” training simulation using rubber bullets and invited Hutchinson to participate.

"There was what appeared to be a bad guy in the hallway, shooting into the classroom," said Hutchinson. "And so, just instinctively, I shot. And then I turned the corner and see that the bad guy that I had just shot was actually shooting with another bad guy, which kind of blew my mind for a
second."

Afterwards, the police informed Hutchinson that he had shot a "teacher."

Well, to be fair, if it was a public school the GOP might be inclined to think shooting a teacher at least results in one less union member whining about fair pay and working conditions and wanting goddamned supplies bought by the school district instead of out of their own pocket.

If Pubbies are so “pro” Second Ammendment, why don’t Pubbies allow open carry at all of their political rallies and convention? For that matter, with Pubbies controlling both the House and Senate, both houses should be open carry zones for members of Congress as well as the general public.

They are also extreme hypocrits.

The police chief in my small town did a school talk one day. He visited the bathroom, set his pistol on a window ledge, and forgot it. Some kids found it and turned it in, bless their sensible little hearts, without anyone getting killed. IIRC the weapon was a Glock that had, like all Glocks, a trigger safety—you simply pull the trigger and the gun goes bang. So it could have been worse. The chief investigated the incident and suspended himself for a week.

Any concealed-carry person might have left behind or accidentally discharged a gun that way—happens all the time when people are fumbling around with their clothes. At the risk of stating the bleedin’ fuckin’ obvious, guns don’t belong in schools.

The Gun-Free School Zones Act is a Federal law, signed by the evil liberal George H.W. Bush. How do you propose to get rid of it your first day?

Nothing makes me feel safer than knowing that there may be random people carrying guns all around me. What could possibly go wrong?

So the federal government is going to tell local governments what to do? Hmmmm!

The essential symptoms of mania result from the fact that objects do not present themselves to the sufferer as they are in reality.

What a revolting display last night in Vermont. The leering orange megalomaniac’s crafted random spontaneity could hardly cope with the thrilling rush the alleged drug-free billionaire was getting from his intentionally overbooked crowd. “Get rid of 'em!” he screamed with a Benito-like, or Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus-like, flourish of those famously short fingers, “Don’t give 'em their coats. It’s more than 10 below out there.”
There’s an inexorability in the arc of Trump that many American unconsciously sense (it surfaced this week in the Wallace comparisons) with a dread that knows this inexorability doesn’t lie in the White House…

That would solve nothing. These guys are going at spots for various reasons. Making an area not gun free really does not solve anything one way or another. Plus you could end up with armed yahoos there to “protect” the kids and could make things worse.

No doubt by Executive Order on his very busy first day, what with starting a war or two between swearing in and the YOUGE Inaugural Ball. The rubes just don’t see the irony…
