I read it as posturing to blame the democrats for an inevitable govt shut down. He has repeatedly said that any govt shutdown would be blamed on the democrats - now he gets to deflect his racist comment with a pivot towards framing the blame for the shutdown.

His go to defense when caught red handed is to deny that the news reported his language accurately. It is his search for a fig leaf. Unfortunately for him, TRMS called every one of the congressional participants yesterday to ask them about the incident and what each congress person’s reaction was. So this is not going to be left in Media Says A- Donald Trump and Sarah Huckabee Sanders deny that he was quoted accurately while failing to provide the exact quote and it falls off the radar when the next Trump stupidity appears.

The President agreed to meet with two senators on a bipartisan deal that is in draft. He was not even allowed to meet with them, Rep. McCarthy and six other Republicans showed up because they do not trust the president to even say “I will look at the proposal and get back to you.” Where has the President’s Chief of Staff been all week? He is supposed to manage these things, and the President;s image.
