Discussion: Trump On Blasey Ford: 'If She Doesn't Show Up, That Would Be Unfortunate'

“This is a very tough thing for him and his family,” Trump said of Kavanaugh, the alleged accuser. “And we want to get it over with. At the same time, we want to give tremendous amounts of time. If [Blasey Ford] shows up, that would be wonderful. If she doesn’t show up, that would be unfortunate.”

No mention of Ford as victim, death threats aren’t rough enough for manly Donald, but rumors of sexual misbehavior are, eh?

Show Trump’s attention span: Tremendous time = one week. Oy.

Ford’s lawyer needs to start quoting the Don

Kavanaugh is the “alleged accuser”? I thought he was alleged to have committed sexual assault.

Now I’m beginning to wonder if Flake et al. knew all along that she wasn’t yet ready to do this big public spectacle. (Imagine how anyone would feel.) So he has it both ways—he demanded a public hearing, but oh well, he tried.

“Tremendous amounts of time”— does he know how tremendously stupid he sounds? A rhetorical question of course.

And do you notice how he never says Blasey Ford’s name? I don’t think this is some strategy to dehumanize her. It’s that he doesn’t know or can’t remember what her name is.

Once again those in the “so called” Moderate GOP prove that they are all pieces of shit:

  1. Flake
  2. Collins
  3. Corker

AND a host of others

Yes and accusers aren’t said to be “alleged” unless somehow the fact that they made an accusation is in doubt. It’s time for this sentence to go, TPM!

I’m amazed how tight a leash they’re keeping on Trump’s Twitterphone on this subject. He’s got to be roiling with very big, very powerful manly-man rage, that a woman would dare to try to interrupt his SC victory lap.

Gonna pop his top over the weekend, I bet. Sad (or unstable)!

Does Trump think this is an easy thing for Professor Blasey-Ford and her family? Has Kavanaugh been forced to leave his home due to threats? What is his administration doing to insure her safety? If he actually wanted to get to the truth, Trump would direct the FBI to investigate this.

As a woman the message is loud and clear to me, POTUS, the Senate dominated by white males but also Collins, Republicans as a body, and Kavanaugh don’t care. They.Don’t.Care.

Kavanaugh is not the victim

He knows he’s in trouble, and he knows if he loses the GOP majorities he’s in really big trouble, and he knows women are the trouble. As self-destructive as he is, he’s got a nubbin of self-preservation instinct as well.

This is true, but in a contest between hostile instability and self-preservation, I’ll bet on the hostile instability every time.

Right now, he feels like he’s passive, beta, acting weak. They’re punching and he’s not punching back ten times harder. He’s not really punching back at all. Instead, he’s giving ground, saying how sorry and sad everything he is. It’s gnawing on every fiber of his being. I don’t think he’s got the mental wherewithal to hold out much longer.

No argument. If his occasional forays into rational behavior lasted, he wouldn’t be the Donald John we know and don’t love.

Trump:

“This is a very tough thing for him and his family,”

WHOP-DE-DO… That’s one family verses the millions of families that his rulings are going to affect.

And we want to get it over with. At the same time, we want to give tremendous amounts of time.

What the actual fuck? He fired the little guy in his head in charge of vetting content for even a hint of cogency, didn’t he?

It’s been pretty obvious that was always the plan. You don’t schedule a public hearing for two people without the affirmation of both of the two people. Unless it was a setup made in bad faith.

I think that she & her lawyers are playing this just right… the Republicans are going to whip themselves up into further hysterics bemoaning how “they’ve given her every chance” and “we can’t push this out any further” (ahem, Merrick Fucking Garland) and they’ll wait until Thursday or Friday (late) to announce that Dr. Ford will be in DC on Monday despite the concerted effort to target her & her family – which will throw Trump, Graham, Grassley (and Flake, Collins, Murk) into turmoil.

Come Monday, any GOP question can be turned around with: “That could have been taken care of very simply by having the FBI re-open the background check.”

Absolutely. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was medicating (or being medicated) during this most critical period.

The conservative bear-hug of Trump is almost entirely predicated on stacking the Supreme Court with Randian cultists. If he fucks this up, his owners will punish him.

One more reason why he and the GOP want to have a vote on Kavanaugh as soon as possible.

Trump never fires anybody. The little finally cane to his senses and did the only rational thing. Jumped. Memorial service is private.

And gives Dems time to plan their strategy. With several skilled prosecutors sitting on the minority side, how many others will yield their time and let their experts do the questioning. They have already grilled Kavanaugh and know his pressure points. Prof Ford is unknown to the GOP - hence their “kind offers” to talk with her privately and especially with staffers. And she’s a smart published psychologist in just the right area to be as prepared as a human being can be to handle their attacks - though I really feel for her and have contempt for the, as a certain nominee once called it, “high tech lynching” that she will have to endure. Old white boys have their majority on the line. And they have no idea how to act as the world is changing around them.
