They are incompetent, but don’t let down your guard .
There a lot of really really stupid brainwashed people in this country who don’t believe anything they hear outside the “Cult”
The retreat into the echo chamber of their own counterculture . If they don’t see it on Faux or read it on Breibart , it didn’t happen
C’mon…Trump worried about getting caught in a lie?
Piffle I say!
Trump lies as a matter of course. It is habitual with him…a daily occurrence.
Let them. First off, there is now more room inside of that echo chamber, because they are losing, and will continue to lose, all of the neocon part of the GOP base. And probably quite a few others. As they NYT is putting it in the news alert right now “Trump called on Russia to hack Hillary Clinton’s email, essentially sanctioning a foreign power’s cyberspying”. That LOSES people, it doesn’t gain them.
Secondly, retreating is subtraction in terms of elections. They are reducing the number of people the speak to, not growing them. Trump is starting in a hole, he cannot afford to subtract.
I think people wanting to dissect this as to Trump’s claim of “knowing” or “meeting” Putin have a legitimate gripe. Trump most assuredly wanted his audience to infer he had established a close personal familiarity with Putin that would serve him well when called upon to deal with him as President on the international stage. Playing semantic games to suit your own interests then pleading later people should interpret what you’ve said on a hyper-technical, literal basis is thin gruel in my mind.
I am not a Trump supporter, but fair is fair. This is obviously photoshopped.
Funny! I love it!
If the parsing of Trumps words were treated 1/10th of the hostile scrutiny every utterance and facial expression Hillary Clinton has been subjected to for over 3 decades… Trump would implode so much, so fast, we would have the first man-made singularity in science.
This is just the problem. The only demographic Trump does well with is uneducated white people, white males in particular. But as the NYT upshot has shown he is doing extremely well with this demographic, way better than Romney did. And they are a much bigger part of the population than you might think (I believe the number was 44%). Yet they are the ones who are least going to be moved by this sort of story. Too complicated for them. Plus these faux America Firsters are too bewildered to even know whether Russia supporting Trump is a good thing or bad thing.
I do hope this story will finally sink Trump–obviously in any normal world it would and should. But I think it has to get a lot bigger before it starts moving the needle on his support.
I saw that NYT news alert–that’s excellent.
Excellent point, and believe it or not, one that I was getting ready to post. I don’t think there’s really anything hypertechnical about whether or not they were in the same room, but I agree that if he’s going to toss off bullshit like it’s nothing, he has no right to complain that someone believes it.
“I got to know him very well because we were both on ‘60 Minutes,’…”
“I never met Putin”
Please…
It’s just a drop in a sea of lies but Putin never said Trump was a genius. The word he used means you’re a vivid personality, colorful, not an ordinary person.
Politics 101:
When a US Presidential candidate is forced to explain that he’s not a Russian spy?
He’s losing.
Or, to quote the immortal words of LBJ:
“I don’t need to call my opponent a pigf*cker, I just need him to deny it.”
See my last comment edit.
I think it will get a lot bigger. Its just today that its really starting to gather steam in the MSM, and it seems to be gathering it rapidly. Nor does it appear to be something that is going to require a lot of sleuthing and digging; there are some pretty juicy low hanging fruit already hanging out there.
I went to the first local Hillary campaign gathering last night, and start up with their voter registration drive and phone banking this week (later today, actually). I live in a VERY red area (80%+ republican), big military bases, retirees, etc. So it will be interesting seeing how this particular story plays with them.
In England, it’s “Dead girl, live underage boy, live pig” which get you in trouble. Cameron proved that dead pigs are ok.
Plus the British press seems into it and Bloomberg is too. If they do the spadework, Trump’s enemies will gladly reprint it all.
If there was any chance this story wasn’t going to get bigger, Trump calling on Russia to hack Hillary’s emails eliminated it. This will be interesting to watch.
“I live in a VERY red area (80%+ republican), big military bases, retirees, etc. So it will be interesting seeing how this particular story plays with them.” First of all, I’m sorry. But also do report back on your experience of this–I am most curious to know.
The facts we already know present a very strong circumstantial case at the very least for the Russians attempting to influence the election, with Trump making unusual efforts to do things they would wish for when he’s remarkably uninterested in any other sort of policy matter. But it’s not the kind of thing you can shout out at a press conference. You need the NYT and WaPo to have stories presenting everything in context and then get Trump’s response.
