Well even if he does do an interview he’ll lie his way through it like he does everything else. Only good thing is he’ll make himself look even more foolish.
Yes, he’ll lie, and Mueller and his team will be able to refute every single lie with evidence.
Because its both topical and in the popular palace intrigue venue at the same time.
Reading between the lines (which is always a sketchy proposition for this administration), it appears his lawyers are trying to still negotiate, but Trump has gotten even more belligerent to the idea, so its highly unlikely it happens without a subpoena.
His lawyers no doubt realized that they could at least set some parameters around a voluntary interview. They will have on such latitude when Trump is compelled to speak to Mueller.
So their next course of action is the “slow down” defense. Wait before the officially tell Mueller no. Wait for the inevitable subpoenas. Fight the subpoenas in court and wait for the inevitable loss in court. Buying time, but I don’t see it gets them anywhere, except for allowing his new lawyer to get somewhat up to speed on things.
He’s hired a prestigious NY law firm to represent him in criminal matters (the RNC as usual will foot the bills) and they are Spears & Imes. They sent a letter to Rosenstein in May 2017 signed by 180 prosecutors urging him to hire a special counsel
We are writing to request that you appoint a special counsel to oversee the FBI’ s continuing investigation of Russian Interference with the 2016 Presidential election and related matters. This letter is addressed to you rather than the Attorney General since he has recused himself from this matter.

Looked him up. Still in apparently. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_J._Ekonomou
Remember that it was Kellyanne Conway’s husband who ended up getting a sitting president to speak to a grand jury.
Law experts out there:
Please explain how this works. How does anyone decide to say “no thank you” about being interviewed in relation to an FBI investigation? Or can you just say “sure, but please just submit questions in writing so my lawyers can write my answers and keep me from getting in trouble here”?
What about a subpoena? What do you need for that, and can you ignore that too?
I’m guessing it depends on your status, whether you are just someone who might know something or indicted or have a lawsuit against you or something. Or something fifth amendment related? Or what?
Anyone?
The scenario you sketch out is different than what the MSM was pushing last week.
Last week - MSM told us that Mueller would likely issue a report w/out interview, make findings on OOJ and then recommendations to Congress re: impeachment a la Starr. No subpoenas and indictment on OOJ unlikely.
This week - still negotiating for an interview? Why? Fear of Mueller suggesting subpoenas? Mueller suggesting indictment b/c evidence is overwhelming and he doesn’t trust Congress to do its job? Starr and Nixon precedents show that indictment was possible, discussed at one point, and even sought (Starr clearly sought an indictment from GJ. GJ said no. Nixon GJ wanted to indict. SC said no. This time, both may be aligned on indictment).
Wildcard - Cohen matter. Lots of stuff in there that transcends impeachment. It’s about rampant criminality for acts pre-dating the Presidency. Doubtful that POTUS has immunity from prosecution or indictment for such acts. Question is whether he stands trial now or after he leaves office. Either way, he’d be on his way out like Greitens.
Yes! I adore the irony!
iPhone autocorrect, sheesh.
Still waiting to here the first statement from him: “Thou doth lie, Knave, and besmirch the Honor of our President.”
Too bad they can’t do a no knock warrant raid at the White House!!
Absolutely agree. I think they will come to him and tell him that he’s going to be indicted but give him an option to resign and he will take it.
If Trump consulted with ANY competent lawyer (he fires the competent ones), he would follow their advice (he won’t) and keep his mouth shut and stop tweeting (he can’t) before he gets himself in more trouble (he already has). He won’t have to sit down for an interview with Mueller because Mueller doesn’t need an interview with him. Mueller needs additional staff just to keep up with the things Trump says and writes on a daily basis.
He looks 80 years old, from the combination of poor hair maintenance and stress. I think without the make-up and hair, Trump looked like an average man of 70. Now he looks much older.

When all the dust settles on Mueller’s efforts what really will become apparent is it is the right of the people, through their elected Congress, to keep in office a proven criminal as President. Trump isn’t getting impeached, nor indicted and prosecuted for any crimes while in office. So, Congress, through a failed House impeachment and Senate conviction attempt (if that even occurs), will essentially decree proven criminality by a President is not a disqualifying factor in serving. Everything leading up to that reality is but sturm and drang.
Trump merely needs to invoke the 5th.
What bullshit. He had already chickened out and said he wouldn’t comply with doing an interview. Pretending he was doing something entirely new in this regard is just more smoke. He won’t and can’t allow himself to be interviewed because he can’t go a day without lying his sorry ass off about something. His lawyers know it, he knows it (even if only vaguely) and everyone around him knows it.
