Discussion: Trump Mulls Executive Order, Nielsen Says Troops Have No ‘Intention’ To Shoot Migrants

Per Politico, the executive action could mirror Trump’s travel ban, using the rationale that the migrants would be “detrimental to the interests of the United States.”

I wonder if Neal Katyal regrets endorsing Gorsuch.

“We do not have any intention right now to shoot at people, but they will be apprehended, however,” Nielsen said Thursday on Fox News.

I want Kirstjen Nielsen begging her bread in the street. And that will STILL be better than she deserves.

The Posse Comitatus Act forbids the use of the US Army for law enforcement purposes within the United States. So troops could not be used to apprehend people trying to enter. (Apparently, the act applies specifically only to the Army and, by amendment, the Air Force, but the Navy has adopted regulations embracing the concept, so no using the Marines. (But the US Coast and Geodetic Survey may still be available.)

Did this get lost in all the Trump news?

Yeah, certainly no incitement here. Whatever could possibly give a right wing crazy the idea that’s it’s okay to shoot or send bombs at the other?

Seeking asylum is legal by international as well as our own laws! This is simply insane.

Those families present no more danger to any American citizen than your own family does and you know it, you Nazi scum. Presenting them as a threat that requires the military to face is pure service to your sick boss’s political needs and if it isn’t an ethics violation I’m puzzled what would be.

If the officers/soldiers/whoever have a reasonable fear for their safety because someone is holding a mobile phone or a candy bar or a water bottle or a book or any other object in their hand, the whole platoon can start firing until their magazines are exhausted.

At what point does it become credible for UN peacekeepers to step in?

And, if this administration even knows about this law of course they have no intentions to follow it. They’ll make up some lame excuse, all will be forgiven and nothing will happen to this outlaw administration.

Nothing quite like giving vague, hazy orders to troops regarding the use of force.

The National Guard is already on site, the legitimate and legal federal law enforcement agency within the borders. Mattis may understand Posse Comitatus and refuse to send the military to the border. I doubt that, however, considering this regime does not observe or accept The Rule of Law anymore (or ever did).

“We do not have any intention right now to shoot at people, but they will be apprehended, however,” Nielsen said Thursday on Fox News. “But I also take my officer and agent, their own person safety, extraordinarily seriously.

Yeah because ripping infants breast feeding on their mother is such a threat to officer and agent safety. Or not be capable or willing to document which child came with which adult is not high on Nielsen’s priority list.

That’s exactly what she said.
