Discussion: Trump May Use Executive Privilege To Try To Keep Mueller Report From Public

It’s a no-win for tRump, and a sign that for all of his bluster, he’s in a very weak position.

Suppressing the report, as much as if not more than anything Trump has so far said or done, would be a strong sign that he has something to hide. If he were to take such action, let’s hope that there’s a Daniel Ellsberg somewhere.

The report that’s going to exonerate him and show that it was really the Democrats colluding with Russia? Why would he try to keep that from the public?

Thank God for the 2018 Blue Wave in which the Democratics reclaimed the House. The report will not be quashed as long as we continue to hold that majority.

Play the executive privilege card and he’s fucked.

Don’t play the executive card and he’s fucked.

Asshole doesn’t realize that he’s holding two pair of black aces and eights to Mueller’s royal flush.

As far as Hail Mary attempts go, this one feels like fourth and thirty from your own ten yard line, with the quarterback on his knees (like a dog!!).

I thought that executive privilege basically had to be asserted by the individual, not used as some blanket gag order. What, are we to think Mueller is of the opinion that his work was stupid, purposeless, and should be kept secret?

When you intentionally release the documents, as Ty Cobb seems to make clear was his intended strategy, then you waive privilege and you can’t claim it retroactively when your strategy changes.

Sort of undercuts his multiple claims of innocence, eh?? What a fool!

Trump has said and done a litany of things which easily qualify in normal times as “Oh boy, this is the one, the mistake that breaks the camel’s back. No President can get away with this and go unpunished, or suffer little to no negative consequences.”
He insults veterans and distinguished military officers. He brags about committing sexual assault. He lies, hourly and incessantly, demonstrable lies. He cozies up to dictators and thugs, taking their side in fights against the U.S. He forgives murders of journalists. He just told 800,000 laid off workers to “adjust” and figure out a way to get by.
No, there is no such thing as Trump crossing a line. He’s immune to consequences for his lies and mistakes. At least so far as any consequences either he of the GOP seem to fear to any appreciable degree.

And Robert Mueller will add that to his list of Trump obstructing justice.

Executive Privilege does NOT apply when laws have been broken. The public interest outweighs it. Nixon found this out the hard way. Someone needs to tell Donny.

Anyway, the report will be made public one way or another. If not released, it will be leaked.

There’s just no doubt about this.

Why would DJT do that, if the report will be shown to useless or corrupt or vindicate him, as he says.

Nothing matters other than holding on to the base. He’s past even looking to win a majority. Its all about the Fox viewership.

Trump will assert any evidence of wrongdoing the public becomes aware of due to a leak is analogous to cops seizing evidence without a warrant. Fruit from a poisoned tree. And demand it be ignored. “Illegally leaked!!” will be the cry throughout the land.

Mark it.

No, it’s the other way around.

It’s true that the White House (Ty Cobb and company) willingly gave documents to the SCO, but the SCO is within the executive branch so, arguably, there was no executive-privilege-waiving “release.”

Had the White House refused a voluntary request, and had the documents only been turned over in response to a subpoena, that might be a different story.

Um, okay Stevie. And his approval numbers drop another five points.

He’s fucked either way.

I’m astounded every single day that this criminal in the WH is an ongoing saga. In theory I know why he hasn’t been removed yet, but what good will come of this tragedy being dragged out?

Well, one thing changed a few days ago …

We’ll see how much difference it makes.

I think we have the format for headlines for the next several months, may be years.

Trump (may) or (did use) Y to try to keep Mueller (optional X) from Z.

Almost like Trump is trying to prevent the FBI from doing its job.

I would like to think that simultaneously with a Federal release copies would be sent to all interested State AGs. While not the same as a public disclosure it would serve the same purpose, maybe even better as Dumpster can’t pardon on State charges.
