I’m retired military, but think that anyone regardless of service can criticize the priorities of our military spending.
Easy to criticize from your chair, I hope you have a service background to have earned the right to criticize those who serve?
In the United States of America, one does not “earn” the right to have or express opinions. Please leave this notion in your copy of Starship Troopers.
This is a GOP talking point this morning. They know damn well it’s not true, but have sent surrogates, including congress critters, out into the media this AM to say just this.
It’s not dubious, it’s a lie. Dems are standing up for DACA recipients, including those in the armed forces who Donnie believes are in need of deporting.
Could TPM just perma-link a headline on the newsfeed that says, “Trump Opens Mouth; Bullshit Comes Out”?
If you’re retired military, then criticizing another Soldier for their service and career is even worse. Bandsmen go to war like everyone else in the military.
Criticizing spending levels/priorities /= criticizing troops, no matter how hard you try to make it so.
Gee whiz, weren’t they also hurt the worst by the Nfl protests too?
What a fucking coincidence that is.
However, Trump’s declaration as he entered the Pentagon Thursday morning that “the worst thing” that happens during a shutdown “is what happens to our military” is an exaggeration lie.
FIFY
Visitors to our National Parks disagree.
So do many other Americans…
A shutdown could delay paychecks for those deemed essential and could jeopardize pay for workers told not to work while the federal government is closed.
Virtually every non-mob-related contractor who worked for Cockholster during the past 50 years have noted that this is likely a rather minor concern.
That’s why they are proposing to keep them open in the event of a shutdown. They want to avoid the “Outlaw Jersey Whale on the Beach” effect.
Most fair minded people know this but we are dealing with todays gop being of fair mind isnt a requirement for them
Hey, no problem. Thanks to the second amendment we have a well-regulated militia to step in.
Playing their instruments? Like in the Civil War?
That’s because they are generally males and Rs.
Don’t be stupid. Criticizing the military is enshrined in the Constitution, something many people have so selectively forgotten about. Were “McHale’s Navy” & “Sgt. Bilko” treasonous and bad for society?? Are we civilians supposed to accept the military’s horrible record on rapes and incompetence on reporting violators to civil authorities? (see crazy ex-military guy killing innocents in the TX church)
The military is not about live music to make the medalled brass feel important and good; stop wasting money when a nice portable sounds system can do the job. I note your silence about the wasteful golf courses, ski resort, and F35.
Unless they want to go after Russia.
I’d cheerfully nuke Moscow right about now.
That’s because they are generally males and Rs.
And their contractors kick back a lot of taxpayer dollars to Rs.
Even though it’s a flat out lie, you know it will appear in negative ads for the midterms. Liberal Senator ‘x’ put illegals (DACA recipients) ahead of our troops. The ads won’t mention DACA, just ‘illegals’ with the visual of people running across the border.
Those of us on the board know it’s a lie, but those undereducated, under informed voters will latch on to that ad and vote against Liberal Senator ‘x’. Meanwhile, the same ads will tell them that Fiscal Conservative Representative ‘y’ voted to cut their taxes … and that’s the optics of the midterms.
Don’t get me wrong, I still think the wave is coming, but for it to reach its full potential, Democrats have to be seen as a champion for everyone. The perception in some circles is that Democrats only care about minorities, not the country as a whole. A slew of negative ads portraying Dreamers as more important than the military won’t help that perception.
And I get it, people don’t like the president, but I’d wager for a vast majority of ads for the Senate and House this fall, well, you’ll think either Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, or Nancy Pelosi is president after watching them. A smart republican (yeah, I know, but there are a few out there) in a purple district/state will never mention the president’s name in their paid advertising.
