Discussion: Trump: Majority Of Americans Think Reporters Makes Up Stories

I don’t see anything that says whether the poll differentiated between the kinds of fake news. Breitbart/Fox make up or skew coverage to support the Trump agenda. So if asked if I believe in fake news, I’d say most definitely yes, but if asked specifically if I believed that NBC makes up stories, it’d be a no.

Trump: Majority Of Americans Think Reporters Make Up Stories

The Politico poll was conducted from Oct. 12 to the 16th and surveyed 1,991 registered voters. The margin of error is +/- 2 percentage points.

How is this “majority” of Americans? I’m not even sure trump actually stated that anyway.

Headline seemes a little clickbaity.

One can only hope the poll results includes all those thinking of the right wing propaganda as well as those disbelieving critical reports of Trump. I really hope you are right! But I have to say, this poll result was tremendously disheartening on its face. It appears to describe such a disappointing and downright depressing condition of our electorate that it makes real progress seem hopeless. If we’re going to be able to continue as a viable democracy we are going to have to find a more effective way of communicating the reliability of quality journalism. Right now I don’t know how we do that with the internet constantly promoting a variety of alternate realities.

I was a bit skeptical of Brian Williams’ claims of seizing the city of Basra from Al-Qaeda militants. For one thing his alleged kill count was dubious at best.

If Faux News is included as “media” then my answer would be “yes”, too.

This “poll” is bullshit.

Ah, I did forget that but that story wasn’t about Trump

I think the proportion of reporters who are significantly dishonest is quite low, but there are a very large number of reporters who just aren’t all that smart or informed. So they’re easily duped into reporting things that aren’t true, or reporting things in such a way that the truth is so distorted as to be unrecognisable. Other reporters then report on what these reporters have reported, and a fake news frenzy ensues.

A classic example on TPM the other day was the leak of an FBI report into racially motivated attacks on law enforcement officials, which was reported as being nonsense despite the TPM reporter having zero evidence to make such a determination. He just decided it was nonsense, and wrote an article that accorded with his personal belief structure.

Second off
There is no point in trying to make a rational argument against the shitstorm of lies from a carnival barker who should have been relegated to a soapbox in Central park shaking his fist at the sky

Exactly. Just because he’s an ignorant asshole doesn’t mean everyone else is.

ETA: I’m not ignorant and neither is anyone else on this board.

Can’t like this enough. But what gets me on the world view and religious intersect is that those who proclaim their Christianity are following and participating in some very un-Christian behavior.

More like blissfully ignorant! Amazing that when even presented with video quotes of Two Scoops saying his usual moronic stuff, they still believe the press makes it up! Unreal.

Just goes to show if you tell a lie often enough it becomes a truth in many minds. The poll also shows the vulnerability of our democracy.

Put some thought to everything Trump says. Real thought, analyze it. I think it’s reasonable to say if he’s talking he’s lying, in some fashion or another. That is not hyperbole. If he’s talking he’s lying. You would think that’s a difficult feat to pull off, something that would require calculation and forethought. With him it’s second nature. He CAN’T tell the truth. I’m unsure he knows the concept. He lies about things that demand no measure of bluster, inaccuracy or misdirection. It could be raining outside and he’d look you in the eye and claim it’s a sunny day. And ten minutes later when called on it he’d look you in the eye again and assert he never said it was a sunny day, because obviously it’s raining. Nearly every utterance is a falsehood to one degree or another.

Yes! The media, here and with overseas outlets, MUST start heralding each and every day the massive negatives Trump himself has garnered. The majority believe he’s doing badly on so many issues and opposes so much we want that it has to eventually sink in. Even as he keeps blabbing about fake news, I do believe more and more will catch on to his carney act.

I normally agree with you wholeheartedly, but I’m going to have to make an exception here in the case of justamarine.
