Discussion: Trump Literally Wrinkles Nose At Mention Of Pivoting For General Election

I hope I never get his ass handed to me! I think the slaves that built the pyramids probably lifted stone blocks that weighed less than that behemoth!

Judis seems to have lost his ability to reason outside of the beltway conventional wisdom, which is almost always the opposite of wisdom.

I’m glad it isn’t just me who finds his contributions so totally underwhelming.

One more time—Trump doesn’t have tiny hands.

He has short fingers—hence the sobriquet ā€œshort-fingered vulgarian.ā€

The theory is that Trump can do those sort of attacks, because he is basically immune from to obvious counter attack that he is much, much worse, as everyone already knows it and its baked in.

That’s more or less the argument that RCP put out today in regard to other topics.

Its a fallacy IMO. People have been floating attacks on the Clinton Foundation since the moment it opened, so that IS baked in. And while it is true that people pretty much consider Trump an asshole in his business dealings…the actual facts that make up that belief are not known. And as they surface into the national conversation, Trump gets the worse of it.

Not just because of the facts themselves, which will indeed have a negative impact, but because attacking Trump’s business dealings is one of his biggest Achilles heals. He simply cannot sit quietly by while that happens, which gives each and every story a longer life and thus seeps deeper into the collective consciousness. And, it puts Trump on the defensive…again.

My guess is, that at a high level, the way this campaign will play out is Trump will go negative, its the only thing he knows. Clinton will aggressively but calmly rebut those attacks and turn them around each and every time to point out the bigger more troubling problems with Trump…while simultaneously making her case…a positive case…for what she wants to do as President. So Trump’s negatives will continue to inch upwards, while Hillary’s positives climb.

There is a widespread simple inability to believe that the Republican nominee is this much of an ignorant buffoon. So every bit of evidence to the contrary, as you suggest, we find the insistence that it must be some kind of act and he’s about to change or (according to the Judis types) that it’s all part of some subtle sophisticated strategy. It is interesting how difficult it is to see what is right in front of your eyes.

He really DID make a peepee joke! I thought that initially but I must say even I could not quite believe it and no one mentioned it. But he did.

Edit: Sorry swampcritter, this was supposed to be a reply to mattinpa.

Sorry, GOP. What your ā€œbaseā€ wants is yelling & sloganeering & racist, mtsogynistic talk and punches thrown. "Presidential behavior & reasoned policies? Not so much.

Too be fair, Judis did say any ā€œpivotā€ was probably too late. But he has a point that a lot of Trump supporters are latching on to his populist stuff and ignoring – or rationalizing – the bigotry, racism and misogyny. Maybe not enough to win, but far more than enough to mean Democrats cannot take his self-immolation for granted.

Rather like the short lived and not at all missed TPM feature, ā€œThe Slice.ā€

Yes he did. And it was one of the brief moments that night that he went OFF the script. And thats the reality…he simply cannot stay on script and when he goes off script he dives into deeper levels of vulgarity each time.

And that really needs to be put into context with what is happening right now. Trump is arguing he doesn’t need to raise $1 billion (because he can’t at this point; he is woefully behind the eight ball in the fund raising arena) because he gets so much free media.

Free media for Trump, however, is largely off script. His interviews, phone call ins, and twitter rants are all off script. And the more he tries or someone tries to make him use a teleprompter and read from a script, the more chaotic he reacts when he gets off that leash.

I was about to say, Dang he sure is reading a lot into my little snarky retort.

Subtext is everything! I was also going to respond to your comment’s implied critique of the Marxist view of capital but didn’t have the time.

A survey talked about this a.m. on Moanin’ Ho showed that 815 of Democrats found trump’s comments to be racist.

But only 20% of Republicans believed his remarks were racist, and 65% of Republicans did not find his comments racist.

So it’s now pretty clear that the GOP is the party of racists.
This fact cannot be shared too often.

Thanks for the link, and it’s great that the Dems are wasting no time in going after her, although in typical Dem fashion they seem unable to muster the nerve to use the obvious word here: ā€œbribe.ā€

I also noticed a sidebar link to this nice little item: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/politics/political-pulse/os-retired-florida-military-veterans-call-trump-a-fraud-20160531-story.html

This has given me an idea for a movie script. A group of wealthy refined society leaders take in a crude, vulgar, classless street dweller and try to tun him into a gentleman overnight…
