Discussion: Trump Leads The GOP Field By 13 Points In New National Poll

Discussion for article #244690

Good that clown Carson is going nowhere. How many dumb remarks a day before you start to sink like a stone?

I’m sure this poll will lead 10’s of Iowans to say they want to vote for Trump in a caucus they probably won’t go to, which will then elect a delegate who can “vote” for who ever they want and counts for about .4% of what is needed to nominate a Republican.

FYI - Per the poll record, it’s an increase in potential support for Trump from 23% in March 2015, not an increase from 23% “in December” 2015, as the article suggests. In December 2016, the figure was 58%.

I guess we’re supposed abandon all hope for a Democratic administration beginning January 2017 because of Trumpet’s tremendous, fantastic, huge poll numbers. A Democrat will win this election because she or he will get the most votes.

The part that makes me happy is all the folks who donated gobs of money to Jeb had their money wasted.

Well OK, nobody actually gave anything to Pataki…

Interesting that Cruz is down a bit, although it could be statistical noise. Let’s see what happens when he wins Iowa.

IF Cruz wins IA. I’m not convinced that these questions about his eligibility won’t be enough of a factor to tilt IA in Trump’s favor. Nor am I even remotely convinced that Trump’s supporters won’t come out in full force. Because many of them have never caucsed before and are as obnoxious, rude, and bullying as their candidate, I fully expect them to strongarm other voters into choosing Trump. Either way, it will not be pretty.

More than half of those polled prefer either Trump, who isn’t remotely capable of being President, or Cruz who isn’t even eligible to be President. The dumbing down of Republicans by Fox News has reached the point where we will have to be very lucky to survive until 2020. If this increases the Democratic vote that is a plus, but just barely, because those who shift from being Republicans will still be “conservatives”, and the party will move to the right.

Those who are “intelligent” in the United States simply do not participate in “politics”, for the most part. Those who are less than intelligent do, overwhelmingly for emotional reasons.

The poll doesn’t even mention jebbers…is he less than 3%?

I noticed the pic of the debate last night. jebbers was nowhere near center stage. HA! That made me laugh.

Cruz is slipping a bit in both Iowa and NH it seems. I am not sure if its the Canadian thing or not, but it is interesting that the number of people interested in it is slowly creeping up.

Looking over the recent polls, however, the big surprise I got this morning was Kasich in NH. He is leading the establishment track with about 15 points now. Christie is starting to slip back down again.

Bad news for Rubio, as once again it just underlines his inability to seal the deal with even the establishment voters.

You won’t sink as long as your opponents are just as dumb!

It’s all still too early. Just posturing.

And

The interesting data point right now…is the percentage of GOP primary voters who are paying attention to the issue. Regardless of where they come down on the issue, as that number increases (and it seems to be doing just that), there is real potential for it to damage Cruz’s campaign.

Because as the interest goes up, he will be under increasing pressure to address it. And once he starts talking about it…interest goes up more. And the more people pay attention, the more Cruz loses voters. Lets say 100 voters start paying attention; even if 90% of them agree with Cruz…that’s 10 voters that won’t vote for him.

And I don’t think 90% will agree with him that its not an issue. The GOP spent far too much energy with their birther nonsense regarding Obama for their base to just entirely forget now.

The Republican Party hardly exists any longer and to the extent it does, it represents the most vile and diseased elements of this republic. What has replaced it is a screaming, banshee-like insurgency that was brought to the fore with the election of an African American POTUS, the marriage equality victories, etc. THEN the batsh*tcrazy Fundie theocrats, bigots, racists and assorted nuts of the Rightie Wingnuttery were unleashed and their main outlet was the party that had groomed and cultivated them for decades.

The GOP, to the extent it crawls along, is now controlled almost wholly by lunatic candidates, true fascists and, in most cases, the oligarchs who control them through funding. The hate and stupidity of the GOP “base” assures they will remain energized and go out to vote, and if the Democrats don’t show up en masse to counter the loons that GOP base will chose to represent them and the dangerous impulses of that mob continue to grow…well, I shudder to think of it.
