There’s no need for me to defend John Lewis. His reputation as a honorable man, civil rights hero and a (small d) democrat is secure. Once again, His Illegitimacy resorts to lies and hyperbolic disparaging tweets to protect his frail and faltering ego.
He may have the title of “President” come next week, but I, like John Lewis, will never accept his legitimacy.

You know what’s really sad? This is starting to become a “dog bites man” story. We’re gonna be distracted from even worse if we keep talking about every Trump Twitstorm against someone, which happens every week.

Donald Trump isn’t fit to shine John Lewis’ shoes.
Remember months and months ago when Josh figured out the pattern and cadence of Trump’s tweets and the predictable, almost childish content? Remember when the Trump haiku was almost amusing? When is someone from his inner circle going to break ranks and come forward and say “Jesus, this guy is just a child”? Or is he that uncanny at picking soulless drones with zero conscience?
I will say this for him - I watched his entire press conference the other day, and he is making absolutely no effort to hide his underlying disease - he seems to be reveling in it more and more as the inauguration approaches. And all of the enablers off to the side laughing and applauding his moronic 6th grade discourse seem to be completely walled off from reality.

Well, it was completely predictable that he would do this, although the racist jab was a nasty touch, but still, unsurprising. It’s more a matter of what new stupidity he’ll tweet, and it only confirms what everyone thinks of him. Another nail in his coffin each time he does it and another downtick in the old approval poll.
The man is a classless, ignorant buffoon, and he’s heading for a catastrophic event.
Whatever. The real story today is the one Josh linked to this morning. “[Mr Steele] came to believe there was a cover-up, that a cabal within the Bureau [the FBI] blocked a thorough inquiry into Mr Trump, focusing instead on the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails.” This really is looking more and more like a right-wing coup has taken place in this country. And the emerging hero of this tragedy is Christopher Steele, who as the rest of the Independent story tells, was so alarmed by this that he worked for free to try to get this information out there.
It’s amazing that it is a British citizen who has been willing to risk his career and maybe even his life (he’s in hiding now) to try and save American democracy. Where are the American patriots? Not in the mainstream media, that’s for sure…(Not a word about this in the NYT or the WaPo, or even about the five calls between Flynn and the Russians on the day of the sanctions.)
