“She is someone that doesn’t really understand life, real life, what it’s all about” is maybe the most nauseating, particularly coming from Trump. Her mother died when she was two, and she lived for four years in a refugee camp in Kenya after fleeing the war in Somalia.

Trump is aware of what he is doing and so are the Republicans members of Congress. They didn’t care when Rep. Giffords was shot, they cared when Scalise was shot. And what pisses me off the most is that we the tax payers pay for his protection, we will continue to pay for his protection for the rest of his terrible life (in or out of prison). (and if he goes to prison will the SS have to still go with him?)

Well on point, Maximus comment misses the point, the point being what Trump is doing is good politics especially in light of Trump’s terrible policies. In fact in today’s New York Times Paul Krugman has an article explaining how Omar is actually in the mainstream in regard to policy but Trump and the GOP is extreme.
The point is, so long as Trump is attacking a woman of color in Muslim dress, he thinks, and he may be right, that he is winning. Trump is definitely winning with his base, White people hurt by Trump’s policies.
The problem is, Democrats are way to concerned with angering a base of White voters that will never support progressive candidates. If I was advising Joe Biden right now, I would tell him to get on stage with Omar and respond aggressively to Trump’s attacks on Omar.

If I were advising Biden, and I wouldn’t want to be, I’d tell him to never get on a stage with Omar. Old, white man with handsy problem who’s from the past of the party versus young woman of color who’s one of the faces of the future and is a success story because of where she came from. Scranton-ite versus Yemeni who spent time in a refugee camp in Kenya. The differences in the party would only be on display more starkly.
The party, BTW, is split between moderates and progressives.

Yeah it is and we can’t win without the votes of people who claim to be independents. They are not progressives by and large. They are more moderate. We have to thread a needle in order to win this.
