Discussion: Trump Jr.'s Russian Lawyer Meeting Covers Obscure Sanctions Law That Infuriates Kremlin

The meeting was about a sanctions law? OOOKAY…then why did Gorka say getting dirt on the other guy is what campaigns do?

Except that normally the dirt isn’t part of collusion with an adversarial foreign government the quid pro Quo of which amounts to aid and comfort to an enemy. So there’s that.
And DJT jr clearly admitted the collusion according to a NYT article.

The incompetence displayed by the trump crowd is mind boggling

This the “why” of the meeting, the Putin regime’s hatred for Sergei Magnitsky

Sergei Magnitsky was a Russian lawyer hired by Hermitage Capital, a London-based hedge fund. Magnitsky accused Russian officials of a $230 million tax fraud scheme involving tax rebates. He was charged by Russian officials with tax evasion and put in prison, where he died at 37.

An official Russian probe blamed a heart attack. . . but he’d been beaten and denied medical treatment.

This NYTimes article provides some very good analysis of why getting these sanctions lifted is so important to Putin:

Now Uday has released the emails along with a statement (link below). Here’s page 4 of the exchanges he posted which may be the most damning.

What’s that sound? A siren? Alan Futerfas is being rushed to a hospital?

So, lets see Tjr is promised damaging information on his opponent (Quid) and is miffed when the conversation turns to the sanctions law* that his informant would like overturned. He says ‘talk to me after the election’

That’s business as usual, right? promise you’ll pay when the job is complete and stiff the contractor? Sounds like Russia was demanding payment guarantees up front.

  • I missed it on first read, but yesterdays statement from junior referred to the act by name - so the ‘i was just worried about orphans. won’t someone please think of the children’ defense is wiped out (not that it was plausible to begin with)
