Discussion: Trump Jabs Ryan For Refusing To Back Him: 'What Is This About Unity?'

Trump also claims to have earned his inherited wealth. But then so does Ryan.

It’s going to get a lot worse before the convention and after. The GOP leadership will be flipping and flopping with every insult The Donald flings at another demographic. They are going to look so dysfunctional that even Palin will look like one of the party’s most sage counselors.

How do you unite Jews with Nazis? How do you unite blacks with the KKK? How to you united Planned Parenthood with rapists? Native Americans with Columbus? Hispanics with John Wayne? Muslims with the Christian Wrong?

Trump unites all those groups as either bigots or refugees from the Republican Party.

I cannot wait until the Republican Party announces its 2016 platform, which will be the same as the other ones - anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-woman, anti-black, anti-Hispanic, anti-poor, etc. Donald Trump will toe the line, because the Republican Party cannot win without the Christianists and the teabaggers, nor without the trickle-down theorists and the forced birthers. Can’t wait until Trump has to defend all those anti-gay laws and stands up for the dissolution of legal same-sex marriage. Why, Donald Trump is going to drag the Republican Party into the 18th Century even if it is kicking and screaming against it!

Republican Party desperately needs a makeover.

I wonder if Queer Eye for the Straight Guy would take them on?

“Unity” or “suicide pact”? You be the judge.

In fairness it does seem at this point Trump has brought unity to a large part of the electorate; unfortunately for him it is unity against him. Could change before election but hopefully not.

“Paul Ryan said that I inherited something very special, the Republican
Party. Wrong, I didn’t inherit it, I won it with millions of voters!”

This tweet tells you world’s about what Trump thing democracy is. In Trump’s mind, democracy is something you win. You win because your numbers are bigger; you get your way and screw the rest. Hillary is out there saying things like ‘they don’t have to support me, I will support them’ about Bernie’s millennial followers, and Trump is saying ‘I got my followers, screw the rest.’ Which message is going to work better in November.

I hypothesize that Hillary’s idea of democracy will be more popular with the voting electorate. The next step in the scientific method is to test that hypothesis. I look forward to the result in November.

I don’t know… I see a very real possibility of the RNC putting out a party platform and Donald Trump just kind of shrugging and saying, “I can get behind some of that, but other parts… not so much…”

He’ll just wander off and say whatever he wants and leave the politicians all over the scale of “Scratching their heads in bewilderment” to “Openly weeping over the funeral pyre for their party”.

You can say many things about the Donald, but I don’t really see him toeing the line. He’s much more likely to say, “I’m not going to do that? You don’t like it? Screw you? I have millions of supporters.” Now that there’s no one running against him, the idea that they could steal the nomination in a contested primary if her refuses to fall into the GOP mainstream is gone. They are at the mercy of this clown, and no one who follows politics with any sort of regularity would mistake him for a Republican party conservative.

I think it’s telling that the ostensible leader of the party can’t bring himself to offer full-throated support for the nominee. Hell, he can’t even offer tepid, politician double-speak support.

The GOP mainstream, the party leadership, is wandering around like they’ve been hit over the head. They’re stunned. Life-long political strategists, professional spin-doctors, are simply standing in shock and saying, “I literally have no idea what we’re supposed to do now…”

In my reality (not the bad one), Paul Ryan announces: “I will back Donald Trump under one condition, that he legally change his name to Trumpy McTrumpface.”

Trump scowls, jets to Ryan’s office where they privately confer for hours. Then they come out. Trump proudly announces, “I now have the endorsement of the Speaker of the House, and a new Twitter name.”

Ryan says simply, “Win win”.
