Last night, speaking to the Republican conference, May got a standing ovation when she mentioned Reagan and Thatcher standing up to Russia.
"But we should engage with Russia from a position of strength. And we should build the relationships, systems and processes that make cooperation more likely than conflict – and that, particularly after the illegal annexation of Crimea, give assurance to Russia’s neighbouring states that their security is not in question.
“We should not jeopardise the freedoms that President Reagan and Mrs Thatcher brought to Eastern Europe by accepting President Putin’s claim that it is now in his sphere of influence.”
Perhaps her comments, and the Congressional Republicans response, put a damper in that man’s plans.
More leaky.
Could be Trump’s lizard brain senses danger in moving too far too quickly.
But, no doubt, he’s itching to lift sanctions.
If Trump is worried about relations with other countries, he should resign.
It seems that Kellyanne was not the last person to speak to him about this.
“We are just walking into a gigantic political trap if we go down this path of sticking Planned Parenthood in the health insurance bill,” he said. “If you want to do it somewhere else, I have no problem, but I think we are creating a political minefield for ourselves — House and Senate.”
Therefore, I think we can count on them killing PP in the first bill they come up with.
I like how there were multiple leakers.
Trump sucks at this joint press conference thing. You know he doesn’t want to be there. He mumbles platitudes until he can get back to watching teevee and tweeting.
It’s embarrassing for the USA, particularly since President Obama owned these events.
Saying “Reagan” does produce the auto reflex for these guys to stand and clap. Good way to get their attention.
Perhaps her comments, and the Congressional Republicans response, put a damper in that man’s plans.
No Donald just saw something on Fox saying maybe he should wait a bit.
"…and if we go after ISIS together, which has to be stopped, that’s an evil that has to be stopped, I will consider that a good thing, not a bad thing.”
Except Trump does not need to get into bed with one evil to defeat another evil when we have the cabability by ourself to defeat the second evil (as Obama has shown). Putin’s help is not indispensable to defeat ISIS, so all we get for allying ourself with him is tarred with his past criminal acts and complicit in his war crimes now. (Now I cannot speak for how a Trump gains personally and financially by allying himself with Putin. This is yet TBD).
After reading that, I was inclined to think they are smarter than I had thought. Then I remembered how they spent years painting themselves into this particular corner.
I am hoping against hope that Obama put the sanctions on Russia in part as a trap for Trump. When he opts to lift the sanctions, this will be the needed proof that he is in on the collusion scheme with the rest of his key campaign advisers (who they already have the goods on). Too hopeful?
“Trump signaled that it was too early to talk about lifting sanctions on Russia.”
His lips say “nyet”, but his eyes say “da”.
Wow, nothing confidence building, there.
Legitimate leaders really make him look like a little baby duck. He didn’t dare break out the bluster in front of her.
Once he gets behind his Android again in private big boy Trump will roar again…
I agree that if Trump lifts these sanctions given all that Putin has done in the Crimea, Ukraine, cyber espionage and meddling in the internal affairs of sovereign nations everywhere, this will be a red flag of Trump complicity and/or compromise by Putin. However, sanctions were imposed by many nations including the U.S. in March, 2014. I doubt Obama gave a thought to Trump running, let alone having a snowball’s chance in hell of winning back then.
Of course it’s early. I don’t expect that Trump will give Russia free reign to plunder the entirely of Europe until the original copies of the “Pee-Pee Tapes” are in hand.
I’m talking about the sanctions Obama just imposed last month. As far as I know, those are the only ones that Trump could personally lift immediately. I believe–though maybe I’m wrong–that the earlier sanctions would require congressional approval to lift.
