Unless gerrymandering and hacking are resolved in the next six weeks or so, it’s possible that the GOP is so entrenched that nothing, absolutely nothing, will hijack their majority and keep them in control.
All the Dems showing up will not change the fact that, in most districts, our votes don’t count. Either we are the minority in the district, our registrations mysteriously disappear or our votes are somehow perverted to elect the opposition.
Tell me how this means the GOP, for all its sins and foibles, gets hammered in 2018 and beyond.
It’s time for the Democrats to start reminding Trump and the Republicans that their needed votes for increasing the debt limit won’t come without some quid pro quos. And that ALL non-reconciliation legislation still needs 60 votes.
I had an interesting conversation with my 30-year-old son last night. He works as a bartender in Portland, OR. He says that a group of guys come in every day and talk about the latest Trump debacle, lie, etc. Sam doesn’t understand why they are surprised every single day. I asked if they guys were my age (60-ish) and he said yes. I told him that’s the reason: from our perspective, we simply cannot get over this. We thought we’d seen it all between Nixon, W, and Monica Lewinsky. The degradation, mockery, lies, etc., that all came BEFORE Trump. So people our age simply cannot get past this the way younger people who have come to expect these kinds of hypocrisy and lies can … . It made me very sad.

Ugh, Becca. I understand your hopelessness and despair but you have to believe that it’s possible. We have to work to get voters out next year … you can’t just give up, it’s really important to fight. I’m not sure how old you are, but when George W Bush was reelected (after smearing John Kerry with the ‘swift boating,’ which still enrages and sickens me if I dwell on it), there was much hopelessness around. Barack Obama was then elected.

I know that this is a long and arduous process - and grappling with Trump requires bizarre strategy - because he follows no logical strategy himself - but - would like to feel that the Democrats have many more layers to their approach & have - even with power structure weaknesses - developed a genuine vision and a determination to not get played - - all too often it looks like they are trying to cleverly ‘react’ to Trump’s inane actions - and because Trump is not bound by logic - they are stunned when he does the absurd - and they look caught off guard
Philosophically, I do believe in the adage “Time wounds all heels” - but would like it to happen faster -
I said it yesterday: the time to have stopped Rump was back in Nov. 2016. But some Dems in this country just didn’t see how the impossible could be made possible and just sat it out in addition to voter suppression. Now, we have to fight like hell to deal with the fallout.
