Discussion: Trump Is 'Very Seriously Considering' Ex-HW Bush AG To Succeed Sessions

If Trump wants him, there must be something seriously wrong here.

GHW Bush (approved as AG) and dying this week sent this guy to the top of the list.

ā€œTo the extent it is not pursuing these matters, the department is abdicating its responsibility,ā€

So, when did Barr embrace Trumpism?

Trump’s brain can’t really hold more than a couple things at once. He needs an AG, goes to GHW Bush funeral, and somehow Hey lets nominate GHWB’s AG…

I don’t know how this guy operates his phone without drooling all over it.

So trump is looking to the guy who was in charge of the DOJ when Bush 41 pardoned all the Iran-Contra figures, ā€œdecapitatingā€ that investigation?

Yep, seems on brand for the trump obstruction of justice train.

pander: verb: gratify or indulge (an immoral or distasteful desire, need, or habit or a person with such a desire, etc.).

No, he doesn’t look furtive and untrustworthy, at least not that much.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I feel like all the pearl clutching about saving the Mueller investigation is about clicks more than reality. It’s not like they’re going to wipe his brain.

House Dems (preferably on live TV): Mr. Mueller, would you please share with us the conclusions of your investigation, tell us who to talk to, what to ask, where to look and do share with us your thoughts on the motivations of the people who shut down your investigation.

Could be just a matter of impressive hair density. It’s gray now, but there’s still plenty of it.

Who knows? I mean, did anybody expect Comey to be such a pollyannaish idiot that he’d fuck the country for the sake of his all-important purity?

While anyone who would agree to work for Trump at this stage of the administration is suspect, especially in this specific post, ā€œguy who has been AG beforeā€ is almost certainly the best we can hope for. In any case he is infinitely better than Whitaker, if for no other reason than allowing an acting AG to persist in the post, sans Senate scrutiny, for no other reason than because the President wants it is deeply corrosive and damaging to the Constitutional order.

Has he said he’ll do it yet? If I were him I wouldn’t.

Wondered too. This White House is perfectly capable of floating a name and then whoops being turned down because nobody got around to asking the person.

They are.

Maybe he has said he is interested. If so he deserves what he gets.

Maybe he’s bored and wants a change, like those lawyers who all wanted to write books when they saw Scott Turow making the big bucks without the late hours.

trump does not ā€œvery seriously considerā€ anything. He probably doesn’t ā€œconsiderā€ either.

If he takes the job he hasn’t been paying attention.

I think that, were he so inclined, Barr could plausibly present himself as a placeholder to serve out the rest of Trump’s term, as a known quantity and steady hand for a position which very clearly seems to need it. And if things went to hell in a handbasket, he could walk away with reputation relatively intact, being able to point to his GHWB tenure as evidence it’s not me, it’s them.

Is he so inclined? I have no idea. Folks who have better insights than me seem to paint him as a staunch conservative but an actual professional who has respect for the office. There are real, important, day-to-day non-Russia matters at DOJ, and I’d rather have Barr working on them than a lunkheaded Iowa tight end dipshit who looks like a bowling ball took up chewing tobacco.

In conclusion, ĀÆ\ _(惄) _/ĀÆ
