He’s trying to lower the bar so that anything short of hari kari during the debate will be seen as a win.
And the media is buying it, reporting on his lack of preparation without wondering why they seem so happy to talk about it – both the candidate and the “sources close to” – when they hide other strategies.
The misdirection of the immigration/Mexico/pivot last week should have the media on their toes, but they’re not.
Trump did say that very little could keep him from the debates short of a “hurricanes” or a "natural disaster"
They are presently happening simultaneously. You’ll know when you encounter Hurricane Hillary.
Well I guess Trump assumes all the moderators will be like this one here:
"Chris Wallace Won’t Call Candidates On Their Lies During Last Presidential Debate
“That’s not my job.”
If his lips were moving you folks should know the score by now…
Well we know he’s aces at mocking, but the question will be can he perform in a debate setting? I think all good twitter mockers need to get their fingers in high performance and we’ll see if he can handle the mock storm coming his way.
Well when it comes to mockery, Trump is the expert, just ask the disabled.
More power to you, Donald Trump; Nixon didn’t think he needed to prepare in 1960 either.
Trump: “I look forward to the debates.”
I’m sure the captain of the Titanic looked forward to his transatlantic voyage. Iceberg-schmiceberg.
Why practice when he’s not going to debate? He’ll use the lack of Johnson or Stein as an excuse, or claim that the moderators are biased against him and hold out for Hannity, or demand to be paid because the ratings will be through the roof. Whatever the excuse, he’ll find one.
Right now he wants to look tough and say he’s looking forward to the debates, but when it gets close he’ll start whining that something is “unfair” or “rigged” and use it as a reason to back out.
He’s managed to get this far without releasing his tax returns with no consequences, he probably thinks he can do same with the debates.
One of Nixon’s biggest mistake was believing the Kennedy camp when they told him there would be a dark backdrop, so he wore a light-colored suit.
Another factor in that 1960 debate was that Nixon won the coin toss but decided to let Kennedy go first, assuming he was younger, less experienced and would allow Nixon to look presidential. Boy, was Nixon mistaken. . . .
It’s obvious to me now he wants to lose and has all along.
His plan has been to ramp up Trump News after the election and rake in the millions that FOX News is taking in now.
He’s pulling the biggest grift in history.
If he ever does debate no doubt he’ll “win” just by showing up.
As a friend put it in 2000, “The media says Bush won the debate because he managed not to crap his pants.”
Donald Trump predicting Donald Trump’s plans beyond the conversation he’s having at the moment? Notoriously unreliable.
I saw the interview on his plane when Donald Trump commented on debate prep. What was almost disturbing was the look of adoration on Mike Trump’s face (He was sitting next to Trump.) I know he wasn’t selected for the VP slot because of his assertiveness, but the dynamic was really unhealthy.
I worry that the media will a) grade him on a curve and b) react to his theatrics rather than the actual points made in the debate.
As such, his utter lack of depth and breadth of knowledge will be swept under the rug.
Yes, he looked like my dog when he’s cuddled up next to me, giving that “I adore you, Mommy” face.
There’s no reason to believe a word he says.
