I was thinking that too. He is a nutbar along so many different dimensions.
There’s one more thing about Moore, though, that would give McTurtle the vapors, and I’m not pointing this out as a defense of Moore, because his inexcusable bigotry is always front and center: he has enough understanding of the Christian canon that in years past, as Chief Justice, he argued strongly for state tax increases to fund expanded social services for the poor in Alabama. If he holds that principle strongly enough to agitate for it it the Senate, where his bigotry will have plenty of company regardless, he could be a useful thorn in the side of leadership. Whereas with the other guys you get the bigotry AND the eat-the-poor economics.
Go figure. Politics is always a mixed bag.
