Discussion: Trump Indicates That Family Separations Are Deterrent For Illegal Immigration

I understand your point but it is not a good analogy. The soccer players were Thai citizens trapped in a cave in Thailand and rescued by a team of Thai Navy SEALs. That situation is a great compare and contrast to how the Trump administration treated the US citizens of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, but that was yesterday’s news.

Trump admin is responsible for 100 babies torn from their parents, for all we know they are lost in the bureaucracy of ICE. But Trump was concerned about 12 boys rescued from a cave. What a hypocrite!

First time I’ve heard this. I already love it.

First they came for our happy adjectives like decency, pride, fairness, normality, rationality and we said nothing.

Next they came for our rabbit hole adjectives like ridiculous, shame, SOB, and WTF, and we did nothing.

Finally they came for our :scream:, and we had no adjectives left.

Hmm, what would be a deterrent to official corruption?

How about impeachment and incarceration?

Hunh? It’s a perfect analogy. When Thai kids are in harm’s way in a cave, honorable people move heaven and earth to help them. When Honduran or Colombian or Mexican kids are in harm’s way fleeing gang violence, the trump administration chose to increase their harm exponentially by kidnapping them, locking them in cages, and causing them permanent psychological damage by separating them from their parents. And it resonates with us all because kids are kids no matter where they live and any parent can relate. As Sting sang a generation ago, Russians love their children too.

Who are you trying to kid? All of us know the ONLY reason this policy is in place is to scare people from even TRYING to cross the border. And the people who DON’T know don’t WANT to know.

It’s a violation of international law to intentionally mistreat refugees in order to keep them from seeking asylum. Trump and Sessions are using the psychological torture of children to discourage refugees from approaching the border. These are crimes against humanity.

Anyone who says certain punishments are deterrents have not looked at statistics. Even in states that have death penalties, murders still occur:
"[T]here is not the slightest credible statistical evidence that capital punishment reduces the rate of homicide. Whether one compares the similar movements of homicide in Canada and the US when only the latter restored the death penalty, or in American states that have abolished it versus those that retain it, or in Hong Kong and Singapore (the first abolishing the death penalty in the mid-1990s and the second greatly increasing its usage at the same), there is no detectable effect of capital punishment on crime. The best econometric studies reach the same conclusion…

Yes, slightly OT, but the principle stays the same: thinking that threatening families with separation will NOT deter people from trying to enter illegally. If they want to get here, they will try anything. It’s time for common sense legislation on immigration.

Yeah, shooting people dead is also a deterrent, moron.

I think the pivot is coming soon though.

PPee will not be pinned down. He was asked in a recent interview if he’d ask Putin in their upcoming meeting about Russia’s meddling, and his answer had to do with locating DNC servers and HRC’s email.

The questions is who do the migrants fear more? The gangsters and cartels in Central American countries who threaten their lives or the Border Patrol thugs who threaten their freedom and their children’s.

Right now they fear the criminals but that won’t last long.

Baby Blimp and massive protests as well. It’ll be grand

On the same day, around 50,000 people are planning to march through central London to protest the US president’s visit to the UK. They will start outside the BBC building in Portland Place before travelling through Oxford Circus and ending up in a rally at Trafalgar Square.

As Trump says hello to both Theresa May and the Queen, his giant inflatable counterpart will be looming above Parliament Square Garden in Westminster, just next to the Houses of Parliament.

I currently think the strongest grounds for impeachment for Donnie are the on-going actions of breaking up families, refusing court orders to reunite them, etc but this is an excellent list of additional charges.

Mr. Mueller, it’s time to make yours position known…

The migrants literally can’t go home again. They’re as good as dead. I’m seeing this as a way to depopulate Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. Come here and be sent home in one of several different ways and be killed. Or stay and be killed. But not before being raped.
