Discussion: Trump: If I Was ‘Presidential,’ I Wouldn’t Be Left Standing In GOP Race

Lord, this buffoon is predictable. I was thinking last night, while watching video of “the frontrunner” waving his tiny hands hands, that the Donald would send a message to his racist followers concerning “the blacks” on the money.

Donnie’s reasoning for why it would be ill-advised at the moment for him to act “Presidential”—or as most of us call it, like an adult—always sounds to me like a slacker teen’s reasons why now is always the wrong time to mow the lawn.

“Andrew Jackson had a great history. I think it’s very rough when you take somebody off the bill,” Trump said. “Yes, I think it’s pure political correctness.”

Trump couldn't recite 3 basic facts about the Jackson presidency with a gun to his head.

In an alternate universe where ths buffoon gets elected I’d like to be a fly on the wall when he gets his 1st intelligence briefing to see his change of expression when he learns the nation’s secrets. And whoever it is who sits him down and ‘splains’ why Presidents behave the way they do. Of course he will still be the buffoon he is in this universe.

Hey, Donald! You’re boring me! This isn’t the circus I signed up for. Be more outrageous, or I’m gonna vote for that woman, just for shits and giggles.

This man is so fucking full of himself and shit … so much so, that it’s impossible to tell which is which.

Donald Trump doesn’t understand what a trade deficit is, and has no understanding of history whatsoever. Of course he lauds Andrew Jackson…after all, he is modeling himself after Jackson despite the fact that Jackson was a pretty bad President who was responsible for a lot of deaths.

@Darrtown, my biggest concern is the fact that he’s going to be able to pivot into the General, change his tune and people will believe him since he seems to believe every word he’s saying. I really am worried that, unless the DNC actually starts fighting for an across the board victory, we could actually see Trump become President.

I don’t know if he can successfully pivot to the general - he has the self-control of a 2-year-old on Halloween night and just can’t seem to stop himself. He couldn’t even stay on message with his prepared speech at AIPAC.

Couple that with the apparent fact that he’s surrounded himself with Yes Men during his career and he’s unlikely to take constructive criticism from even those closest to him

I wonder… Since putting Ms Tubman’s portrait on the twenty is “politically correct” and therefore icky in Trump’s fevered mind…is he intimating the right course of action would be to put this fat mug on the bill?

How many $2 bills do you see in a week? A year? I don’t think I have seen one for the past 10 years. So, yeah, let’s put the black lady on the bill that no one sees, or uses.

It is just a fear. The man is a con artist, plain and simple. Con men do all sorts of things to advance their interests.

Jackson…

*His spoils system rewarded incompetent political friends with jobs they weren’t fit for (basically all but his pal Martin Van Buren failed.)
*His Indian Removal denied the decision of Supreme Court Justice at the time, John Marshall, who claimed removal was unconstitutional.
*He opposed legislation to protect debtors (though he claimed to support farmers who were most often the ones in debt)
*He was back and forth on the tariff issue. First he opposed it, then he threatened to send in federal troops under the Force Bill if his former buddy in SC, John Calhoun, nullified (ignored) it
*He “killed” the national bank of the U.S. and put the money into small, powerless pet banks.
*His awful “Specie Circular” required all payment for land be in Specie (gold/silver) as opposed to paper money, making it impossible to buy land or pay off debts
*The last two led to the Panic of 1837

Good riddance…

Hinting that he’ll pivot in the general? If he does, his frothy fevered hate filled fans will freak, and he will find himself falling from their affection forever unless he finds his inner fascist again.

And this a lot of effs already this morning.

Yeah…let’s put her on something that is going obsolete and nobody hardly uses anymore.

I’d agree with that. At this point any talk of so-called Presidential behavior is a media artifact. They’ve had a whole narrative ready to go for months now about how Trump was changing his tune as he pivoted to the general. It takes very little provocation for them to get that narrative out and take it for a spin—they were marveling the other night that he didn’t natter on for 40 minutes and he actually articulated the words “Senator Cruz” as if that were “Presidential.” It’s laughable, sad, and dangerous to the republic all at the same time, this nonsense. Trump’s personality is founded on childishness and the failure to internalize the idea that adults wear various personae as they go through their day. Sustained mature behavior would be a new thing in a seven-decade pattern of mental illness and infantile acting out. It could happen, in the sense that anything could, but it certainly doesn’t seem likely.

LOL. Well, it would certainly be less “politically correct,” wouldn’t it?

Kidding aside, I am really offended by anyone who says or suggests Harriet Tubman isn’t a great choice – more than great, really. For a long time, I’ve wondered why she hasn’t been given such an honor. I swear, if someone told me to my face that this decision is “politically correct,” it will take a lot of restraint on my part not to bitch-slap them to the ground.

“If I didn’t, if I acted very presidential, I wouldn’t be sitting up here today, somebody else might be. It wouldn’t be me.”

What’s truly perverse is that this is probably true. The Republican base responded to him the way they did precisely because he said the awful, nasty things they wish they could say, because he made them feel better about themselves by acting like gutter trash right along with so many of them, and because his behavior is such a departure from the current WH resident who’s calm, rational, respectful demeanor they reflexively hate. Cheering on a presidential candidate who is the polar opposite of President Obama in just about every way imaginable is part of the GOP’s seven year temper tantrum in which they oppose everything Obama does simply because Obama did it. GOP, you built that! You really did this time!

@artemisia I think Trump to be utterly incapable of changing colors. Yes it is traditional for parties to pivot after the primaries…but this cycle is not “normal” at all. I think no sane person who looks at today’s world, with all its dangers and complex problems, would vote for trump. I think after the conventions when the real fight begins that trump will get put in a meat grinder and in the election he’ll get eviscerated. He’s written attack ads that don’t need a democrat voice over for God’s sake. The man is obviously incapable of understanding statecraft, Congress, governing, or of even finding his ass in a dark room. So don’t worry excessively.
