Maybe not gas chambers, but he could if in power, declare an national emergency and use the military to contain enemy populations within our own borders. We just don’t know how far this man would go. He would have in his grasp the most powerful military in the world, and enormous executive power. And the numbnuts that support his wall don’t realize that walls work not only to keep people out – they notoriously can be used to keep people in. We are seeing that the GOP will not really stand up to him – they will submit, just as Trump demands. He will feed them everything they want so they will be eager to assist him.

There is no doubt he is lying. And as Matt said above, he has to be somewhat crazy to even behave the way he does while running for President! No person in their right mind would do the things he has done and is doing as a presidential candidate. It’s almost as though he believes he is invincible and can do and say anything since he has gotten away with it up until now. We were idly wondering months ago on threads here and there about whether we’d see him crack up in this process. I think an answer may be emerging.
You do realize we are describing exactly what George W and his gang did in the 2004 election. They swiftboated a decorated war hero. Their TeaParty brownshirts attended Democratic town halls and threatened people. They went on to question a black candidate’s faith and patriotism. They pledged to make sure that a US president failed.
There is a pattern here that began over a decade ago and has only intensified.

IMO, Trumph has been studying Mussolini. Look at his body posture. Look at the low grade violence in his rallies. His antics scream “fascism” from top to bottom. Trump is not ignorant. He knows very well what he is doing.
I think you’re right. Personally, I’m torn on whether this is all some performance art show to demonstrate how stupid Republicans are by taking over, or if he really believes it. Or, as Josh suggests, there’s basically no difference and he just believes whatever he does because he has no principles.

Comparing Obama to Hitler was silly because it’s such a hilarious stretch it deserved mocking. It was literally just making stuff up to where anybody with any shred of intellectual honesty would smirk a bit at the idea. Trump rallies on the other hand are the real deal. I don’t think Trump is Hitler reincarnate and I get your point that it’s teetering on being a bit too hyperbolic. But Trump is actively calling for banning people of a certain religion from entering the country, advocating torturing them and suggesting we go after their families. He’s wishy washy on rejecting the support of openly white supremacist organizations and says anything, regardless of how far fetched it is, to whip his supporters into a near frenzy. That’s not exaggeration and nobody is making that up. Those are things he’s really saying, among other equally horrid things. On top of that you’ve got some Trump rally imagery that’s quite reminiscent of sieg heil saluting from the 30s and it’s not that much of a stretch. Definitely not Glenn Beck territory.

I honestly think he is trying to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING he can to push the envelope and yet still get the nomination. I will not be surprised if he starts getting coked up hookers to give him BJs at the podium during his events. And the scary thing is, I think if he did, his numbers would go UP with evangelicals!

Hitler was rather unique, and Nazism different from “ordinary” fascism. Mussolini, Franco, and Salazar didn’t gas millions. But the ywere still authoritarians who tortured and persecuted their enemies. Trump has promised to do that as well, and those are the better models.

Exactly, nothing he is saying is feasible. He’s just saying crazy shit for attention. Hitler was the opposite, he was a diabolical mind with a strategy of exterminating people and conquering countries. Trump has no desire to do either of those. If he did, he would not be saying it, he’d be sneaky about it.
He’s a TV guy. A shock jock. A flaming A-hole. Hitler was an evil monster, but he was also brilliant. Trump is really not that bright. Daddy set him up, and he has a cool name that he can use for licensing. And to keep that “status”, he needs to be in the media saying crazy shit.
Lucky attention whores are not brilliant just good at manipulation.
