Discussion: Trump: Haspel Attacked For Being 'Too Tough On Terrorists'

It sure does get old hearing this ignorant sadist talk about torture. It really, really gets old.

U.S. citizens are being apprehended and detained by our intelligences services. Many are then denied due process under our laws and the Constitution, suffering indefinite confinement with no representation or prospect of trial. Iā€™d like the committee reviewing her nomination to ask her opinion of the nationā€™s right to deny its citizens due process and a speedy trial, as guaranteed by the Constitution.

Seems to me, Trump is hoping of stirring up a torture argument nationally to distract from the constant stream of bad news coming his way.

If only our press was capable of holding several conversations at once.

Chuck Todd needs to ask Newt Gingrichā€™s take on all this. Iā€™m sure NBC thinks itā€™s relevant.

Yes, Donnie, you can be too tough on terrorists. Torture does not work. Thatā€™s been known for centuries.

If she was seriously considering backing out, itā€™s because she KNOWS that thereā€™s enough damaging stuff about her waiting to come outā€¦

ā€¦but Iā€™ll happily vote for her confirmation anyway.

In other words, only Democrats seem to care about laws, international treaties, and military field manuals that prohibit torture.

and as long as it doesnā€™t reach ā€˜Plame likeā€™ levels (which is going to be impossible with ā€˜government twittahā€™), I want her to stay in the running.

Though his track record is there (he voted against Pompeo and Coats), its going to be interesting to see if he will vote for her.

I have lawn chairs that fold less easily than Rand Paul.

Senate confirmation hearings are like bad recurring dreams.

Actually, theyā€™re worse. Iā€™m fully awake.

'kies, Iā€™m not going to defend Rand Paul"

Torture works just fine as long as your goal is to get the subject to say what you want him to say. If you want someone to confess to some heinous crime, torture is a sure-fire method. For gathering actionable intelligence, however, not so much. And, of course, if you let it be known that you torture your captives, there is no viable defense or moral high ground when your own captured operatives are tortured. Itā€™s just another of those ā€œboth sides do itā€ standoffs.

If his vote is needed to confirm, heā€™ll provide it.

The erosion of democratic principles in just two years of this manā€™s leadership is staggering.
