Discussion: Trump Goes After GOP Gov. Susana Martinez At New Mexico Rally

Trump likes to attack women doesn’t he. It is almost pathological.

I thank Rump for doing the work for NM Dems.

What is much worse than what he spews is the fact that at least 35-40% of the voters in this country either do not speak english or don’t care if their candidate speaks english. Irony is these are all native, white, mostly men and hate foreigners who can’t “speak the language that was established in the constitution…” But then again they probably can’t read that either.

Oh, that’s going to serve him well! Ah, hahahaha!

Chris Christie isn’t in bondage, he has bonded.

I do kind of wonder if he would have done this with a white male, but he’s done it with Paul Ryan. This is his modus operandi - insult and bully until they give in and support you, then praise them and people forget all about it!

I understand the media has to stay fresh and can’t harp about the same things, but where are they on all of these things?

  1. His taxes - he says he’ll release them while trying to win the primary, but then he wins and says he doesn’t have to. Just trust him, there’s nothing to see in those. How does any self-respecting conservative not despise this man? He destroyed half their reasonable candidates with lies, cons, and then pulls the bait and switch when he wins? How do you support this man? A moderate, and fairly hawkish democrat cannot possibly be worse.
  2. Self-funding - Something that he’s gotten praise for across the political spectrum because, even if they don’t like him, maybe he’ll do something about money in politics? He wins - Nope. Same old shit, fundraising, praising $100 million from Adelson, loans to his campaign that he can be paid back for.
  3. Not a politician? - Um… See number 2! Even if he hadn’t flip-flopped on everything, how is a CEO not just a politician of another color?
  4. Conservative? - Nope. Every “conservative” claim that comes out of his mouth is just a caricature of conservative ideology, because he hasn’t thought about the issues, the consequences, and most importantly he hasn’t thought about how these ideas will be opposed by a majority of the country.

Where are the National Review? Brietbart? Red-state? What happened to the #NeverTrump people? Why aren’t they taking him to task on all of these false promises he gave in the primary?

I think the answer comes down to something simple: they hate Hillary Clinton. Blind partisanship (or maybe Rage-blind is more accurate) will usher fascism into this country.

I keep going back to the theory that he doesn’t really want to win the presidency, that he just wanted to up his branding of the Tump name and the cost to others who want to use it, and have some fun with the ultimate reality show. He’s probably as shocked as anyone that he won the primary.

So plan B- be as crazy and as obnoxious as possible to lose the general which will still up his ante on the name branding in the end and not have to be stuck with 4 years of actual hard work that is way beyond his level in so many areas. Plus not losing freedoms that regular citizens have that presidents have to give up during their terms.

I wouldn’t worry about a dunderhead like GOP Gov. Susana Martinez. She’ll fall in line for Trump like the rest of the utterly shameless neutered GOP holdouts. Look how fast John McCain held out before “supporting our party’s nominee”!

That’s reasonable if you’re seeking the method to his madness, the rational reasons he might act the way he does. But I’d propose a simpler explanation for it all—there’s a madness to his madness. He acts crazy because he is crazy. He may have flirted with running all those years for the reasons you say, but he’s also a classic, obvious, severe narcissist. Those early successes tipped him over the edge, and now he literally thinks he ought to be running the world. He says irrational, delusional things all the time. The evidence is quietly mounting that he may not even be a billionaire, and if that came out his entire world would blow up. He’s hijacked one of two political parties in the world’s only superpower. So I keep going back myself to the theory he’s nuts.

Awesome.
I too wonder if this is a performance piece gone off the rails.
Andy Kaufman appearing would be AMAZINGLY funny! Borat would weep for the rest of his life.

Should this walking personality disorder actually get elected…I hope he has the good sense to resign … within the 1st 24 hours after the election.

Thus is not a game, a salve for Donnie’s easily bruised ego, a toy for this man/child to play with. Thius is one goddam difficult job to do…the Presidency of the United States…and Little Donnie Trump is not equipped by temperament, skill level or experience to deal with it all. Having watched 3 different businessmen be the governor of my state I can observe that business men make really shitty governors. And by extension it is very very likely true in this resent case

I have an extensive collection of pulp books, as well as thousands of digital images of pulp sci-fi, western sleaze and detective covers from the 30s, 40s and 50s. As far as actual physical books go, I’m well on my way to collecting every single edition of the Ace Double D series.

Hey, a guy’s gotta have a hobby, right?

That could not be any more obvious…unless he gets carted away in a straight jacket at some rally.
Now, I’m no psychologist but I spent considerable time around a hospital in my career. I have seen crazy. This is crazy in spades.

Absolutely agree.

Actors (Schwartzenegger) also make bad governors.

There was a piece on NPR recently that talked about how Trump believes he has found a new way to campaign, whereby he reaches people “directly” via Twitter (adding: he also says directly via the Media, as he manipulates them masterfully to give him free advertisement) and such, so he doesn’t need to really do, for example, tv ads.

I think that in a way that pretty much sums up why he’s not doing what a campaign normally does:

  1. He thinks he’s a genius who’s found a new way of doing things.
  2. He surrounds himself with sycophants, so no one’s going to tell him otherwise.
  3. He’s not a traditional candidate, so he hasn’t got a clue how things work. He thinks all he has to do is show up somewhere (rally / debate / tv station), give a speech, and send Twitter attacks. And to his credit, it’s worked with the GOPers. Not to his credit: He doesn’t realize that GOPers <> Most of America.

Well, I’m no psychologist either but I know when the car’s acting funky even though I’m not a mechanic. Does Trump violate social norms? Check. Is his behavior statistically rare? I’d say so. Does he experience personal distress? Err, could be! And last but not least, is the behavior maladaptive? Ta daaaaa!!! He’s officially buggin’…

I heard something similar quite some time ago about the early stages. As you say, it’s worked so far, and as you also say it might not work in a different context. This whole situation IMHO is due as much to GOP pathology as it is to any particular skills Trump has. Remember 2012, and all the nutso frontrunners in the early days? Then they settled down with the Plutocrat Next Door. This time they split the difference. He may be evil, Trump, but he ain’t no genius.

Hands indicate the size of another body part?? (strokes whiskers) Hmmmm … welp, there is this to consider…:

(aside to TPM…)
HEY TPM…WHEN I USE A GODDAM COLON AS A PART OF A SENTENCE IT DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN I AM AFTER A GODDAM EMOJI…MMMKAY?? So, please quit with your annoying assumption that every colon is supposed to be an emoji.
